I have sciatica as well and am currently taking 300mg 3x a day for about three months. I haven't noticed any improvement at all.
Cannabis doesn't touch the pain, but certainly makes one care less about it. Unfortunately, being high all the time gets old pretty fast. I'm looking for a better alternative.
Gabapentin didn't help my sciatica or fibro. Medical cannabis and the heating pad are the most helpful.
I live with fibromyalgia and take 800mg of gabapentin 3 times a day. It doesn't leave me 100% pain-free--- however, it does keep the pain to a minimum so I may get out and about. I don't know about sciatica and hip pain. If gabapentin doesn't give you relief I'd suggest speaking to your family doctor. There may be alternative meds.
