I had an acute attack of diverticulits and have been on cipro/flagyl for 5 days. Started with a clear liquid diet for a couple days and advanced to a low residue diet for the last 3. I'm feeling very well right now and really want to go back to a normal diet sans seeds, popcorn, etc. When can you start eating a normal diet or even high fiber diet? I'm DYING for some pizza. Anybody know when I can start eating normally again?
When can I switch to a normal diet after an acute attack of diverticulitis?

I agree you should consult you Dr. I will add though that for pizza if you use the cauliflower pizza crust, a mild sauce and some mozzerrla it should be fine as long as your attack is completely calmed down. My Dr said 3 days clear fluids, then into the diverticulitis diet..
Nick178, be careful eating a high fiber diet with diverticulitis its rough on the bowels. Last year I was in out of the hospital a lot for my diverticulitis and ended up having to have a bowel re-section and let me tell you I wouldn't wish that surgery on worse enemy. I would say you should be able to go to a normal diet if you start to feel a flare up again than I would go back to the clear liquid diet right away for a few days as to let your bowels rest and let your doctor know. Diverticulitis is something we'll never get rid of but if we manage our diets it makes our lives a lot better. Good luck!!
Check with your dr. He knows your condition.
Would love to. Can't seem to get a straight answer. I'm looking for people with similar experiences.
No offense but obviously I've crossed past 'ask your doctor' or I would not be posting this question on an internet message board.
