Tradjenta - Why does this drug cost so much?

From what I have read it does not even work well. My mother was told she needs to switch from metformin to trajenta because of her kidneys. She has never had any problem with metformin. I hope trajenta will work for her but I am not sure how any one can afford it.

Tradjenta - How quickly does this med start working? Does it have to somewhat build up in your body?

I started the medication three days ago after switching from Januvia due to kidney function. I have had higher than normal A1C levels (200 and above). My normal readings are 100 - 150.
