I am currently slowly tapering off Cymbalta by counting beads, 3-4% every 4 weeks, currently at about 17mg. My Doctor wants me to stop taking it and start taking Pristiq, another SNRI. I'm afraid of stopping the Cymbalta cold turkey for fear of withdrawal symptoms. I never intended on taking another antidepressant because of the horrible side effects but I am extremely depressed and have bad anxiety which seems to get worse with every drop I make with Cymbalta. Is it safe to start a low dose of Pristiq while still slowly tapering off Cymbalta? Very concerned about serotonin syndrome. I'm not sure if my doctor (Psychiatrist) has the best answers. I'm scared and need help. Thank you all.
Stopping Cymbalta/starting Pristiq proper protocol?

I have had major anxiety and depression all my life. What was missed is I actually have Bipolar 2 (not Bipolar 1) Google it and see if you can see any symptoms. You only go to the doctor when depressed, so other symptoms can get missed. The reason I say this is it is mostly a low mood condition presenting like major depression with other goodies thrown in. Even one hypomania experience can give you this diagnosis. Antidepressants won’t treat this and I went through so many. At the moment I am still on Pristiq with Valium for hypo times but will introduce another drug soon for Bipolar 2 which apparently will make a big difference in the depression. Have a think
I would look at the protocol of getting off pristiq just so you know in the future. It's lowest dose is 25mg. I came off the drug every other day, 2 days, 3 days etc.. It does give you much runway to jump off because you can't break it. After 2 months of being off I had a major anxiety break down like 3x worst than I started the medicine 15 years ago. No crazy things in my life just boom! This post is not to scare you out of pristiq like I said I took it for 15 years and was fine. This was just my experience and ymmv.
Klonopinkid- sounds like you suffered post acute withdrawal syndrome from coming off the Pristiq too fast. That happened to me with another drug and I got it bad.
Dear Sflowers61, I had done that several times with no side effects tapering down or stopping the original SSRI/SNRI. I think you should trust this doctor and within a couple weeks you will feel much better.
