I understand a lot of people are prescribed this for depression. I however do not have depression, only anxiety. I have had generalized anxiety for as long as I can remember which I could get through. Now I am starting to have panic attacks and no sleep due to these attacks. My doctor put me on wellbutrin 150mg. I am 23 years old, never have had any medication like this before. This is strictly for anxiety. Can I please have some feedback if this is a could match for be based on experience. Thanks so much !

Antidepressants work very well as anxiolytic agents also. IMO, Wellbutrin was the best medication I've ever taken for my anxiety disorders.

PS, they also can cause side effects in some people when starting therapy. These resolve within just a few days to a week or so, are generally mild, and do not require discontinuation.

Curious about the side effects you mentioned. I’ve been on Wellbutrin for about a week after switching from Paroxetine. Every single night since making the switch I have had full nights of strange dreams. I’m curious to know if this is common and if it generally subsides?

From the literature:
"WELLBUTRIN -
Psychiatric
Very common (10% or more): Insomnia (up to 45%), agitation (up to 31.9%), abnormal dreams (up to 13%)"
These usually resolve within just a few days to a week or two. If they were to persist any longer you should consult with your doctor, but chances are very good that they'll disappear shortly.

I am now 10 days into the Wellbutrin. Thankfully the dreams are now less violent but I still feel like I’ve spent a night watching movies instead of resting. So strange. And all of this for a drug that only might help with the anxiety...

This med was not effective for my husband and started to give him more anxiety, lots of sweating, weight gain, and sexual performance issues. He was quickly taken off of it.

Rebecca, I also take wellbutrin for anxiety. At first some people become more anxious before it becomes effective. Fortunately, my doctor prescribed buspar for me to take with it, which was a good combo for my anxiety. But you have to take buspar regularly, it can't be taken per as needed. Then after your body gets used to the wellbutrin, you may be able to discontinue the buspar and just take the wellbutrin for your anxiety. Be patient and I think you will like this medication.

It's for anxiety too. Unfortunately with this type of medication it could take up to a month to see full effects and really help you out with panic attacks.Be sure to take it regularly every day and as close to the same time as possible to make sure you are getting the best results. cheers!

Rebecca Just wanted to step in here with the ladies and say I agree with their answers, Of about all of the so-called Antidepressants this one works great on ANXIETY TOO a big plus because many of us with depression also have anxiety.And if you just started it, As I think it was Laurie that said it can give some side effects for the first few weeks if that but just about if not all of those go away and shortly after that you should if you have not noticed it seems to work on anxiety first which is the trigger for your PANIC ATTACKS.
GIVE this one a good try for myself it worked better for the anxiety then depression so I take something else for the depression Hope this well be all you need.And no worries many of us have had these type of problems almost all our lives too so feel at home and to post any questions you feel you need help with.This to me is one of the best site's on the system for good information from people that have had the same effects as what you are talking about. Many of the antidepressants including Wellbutrin also work for anxiety. I've taken Wellbutrin for years with great success. You may experience some mild side effects in the beginning. These should subside in the first couple of weeks and you'll hopefully feel relief within the first month so be patient.

Monitor your weight. When I was just on Wellbutrin my appetite was gone. It kind of felt like I was on speed or something, LOL. Also, this sounds crazy, but on Wellbutrin alone my sex drive was crazy high. Sounds like a miracle drug, haha. Unfortunately, alone it didn't work well enough for me. I've tried twice. I need both meds. My doc says the Wellbutrin counteracts the weight gain and loss of sex drive that the other meds sometimes cause. It makes sense. A balancing act. Good luck. Hopefully all you need is Wellbutrin.
