Depression & Anxiety - How long does Remeron take to work?

remeron makes you sleepy, and you will put on weight whether you like it or not. It definitely is not my first choice. Valium or Xanax is best for anxiety, and either Lexapro or Vivactil is a very good choice for depression. You can't beat exercise as a comprehensive antidepressant too.

have been taking Remeron for 8 months with a gradual increase to 40mg. And have gotten worse so want to get off of it... other medications have been added and no relief from with anxious, nervous condition. When someone tells you they are having trouble getting their medications adjusted I will surely give them my sympthy. How are things now for you?

Hi haley4540. It depends on the person how soon the drug takes effect. Sometimes it takes 4 weeks sometimes it takes 2 weeks or sooner. I'm no doctor I'm speaking from experience but when I start a new medication, I get results within a week.

I was on Remeron several years ago it took me about a week for the meds to take a effect. One of the side effects is the increased appetite. I hope you don't get it... just letting you know.

was on Remeron for depression as well, and it took about three weeks to help, I guess it helped a little with the anxiety, but my DR also had me on Klonopin at the same time, maybe you should ask him for klonopin.As far as Remeron, I stopped taking it though, not for any bad reasons, the medication was fine, I took it at night, and it had helped me sleep some. I also have taken Zoloft, Prozac, Paxil, and all those other Meds, you just gotta keep trying them individually until 1 works, we are all different, and what works for me, may not work for you. Hello haley4540. The anxiety, irritability will ease up the longer you remain on Remeron (Mirtazapine). These side effects are normal as well as common. The drug will take close to four weeks time for it to be working theraputically and by then your depression will also be under control. I use it as a sleeping aid.
