Typical side effects when starting an antidepressant generally resolve within just a few days to a week or two.
From the literature:
"Some side effects of citalopram may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects.
Side effects have been reported to be generally mild and transient. They are most common during the first 2 weeks of treatment and decrease in intensity and frequency with continued treatment. They generally do not lead to treatment cessation."
Yes unfortunately all have to brave this stage of any drug.
I went from Prozac for 6-7 years, then Citalopram, then Effexor which is by far the best for me until I became immune, tried Paxil back to Effexor, then Zoloft which was great! At lowest dose within 4-5 days i felt good but it triggered a 6 month long cluster migraine, back to Effexor then stopped it and noticed nothing.
SSRI and SRNIs have a tendency to trigger chronic migraines spells in ones who have it.
I’m looking into Wellbutrin??? Don’t believe it’s one of the above mentioned?
Also heard people lose weight too.
Wild Cat you have any experience??
Any information you hear about Wellbutrin?
I just started Wellbutrin about three weeks ago. Because it's an atypical antidepressant I've tolerated it well with my Bipolar disorder. Only side effects were mild nausea and "spaciness" with the first dose but I felt fine the next day.
Am hoping it will help me lose weight from the other meds I'm taking but not too optimistic.
Will let you know how it goes after a few more weeks of the trial.
How did it go,?
Hey! I started citalopram about 6 days ago. I seriously felt awful the first few days like, worse anxiety, sweaty hands and feet, unable to sleep, heart papatations, nauseas, couldn't even walk I felt so weak. I just felt super weird and honestly worse. But since yesterday I finally got some of my energy. Im not as nervous and im having better thoughts. Not tottaly feeling my best but I can definitely see the change. I think it's worth it to give it a try and seriously. I had a lot of moments I wanted to give up on this drug but I'm glad I didn't! Always keep in contact with your doctor but remember everything should be perfectly fine!
Thank you for taking the time to answer my question,I had to quit taking the medication it was not agreeing at all I not even sure if it is the proper medication for me, I have a new dr. And I guess I have to try and work through this
