Is it ok for my son to take sudafed and claritin together, do they have the same medicines in them?

Yes, as long as the Claritin is just plain Claritin and not Claritin D. If it is Claritin D then it already has the same drug as Sudafed in it already(or one similar depending if it is regular Sudafed or Sudafed PE). Plain Claritin is just the antihistamine so it would be okay to take Sudafed or Sudafed PE with it.
