If your dentist or ER doctor wrote you a "full" script for SMZ-TMP DS (Bactrim) then yes it will help. However, if this medication is just hanging around the house and you don't have a full prescription of it then I would either go to the ER or wait till Monday where the complete situation can be addressed by a dentist.
Also, by waiting till Monday the dentist can look at the infection and prescribe the correct antibiotic.
Dentists usually prescribe Penicillin or Amoxicillin as a first choice when it comes to tooth infections.
Finally, since antibiotics take a couple of days to take full effect I would wait and make sure the right antibiotic is given for your situation/tooth.
One final note if the prescription has been hanging around the house then the antibiotic will not be 100% of it's true dose.
Try using a local pain gel (Ambersol) until you can get to a dentist.
Feel better!

Yes you can use it. I myself have used it to treat my tooth infections cause I don't have insurance to get treated it does the job everytime I take it with a tooth infection.
