Is this? I am in the UK and I was prescribed sertraline 5 months ago and in all that time my brand has been milpharm... I picked up a prescription today and it's a brand called Ranbaxy. I have read up that getting a different brand is not good as it can cause horrible side effects again. I am terrified to take it because I had dreadful side effects when I first started on my original brand, after 5 months I am feeling myself again and so much better. I cannot bear to go back to the beginning again if I take this different brand! Please can anyone help me with any experiences or info on this?
Thank you in advance

Hi, Suzy!
The active ingredient (sertraline) is the same in generics but the inert ingredients... fillers, binders, coloring agents, etc... may differ from one manufacturer to another although many are identical. This would only matter if a person is sensitive to any of the inactive ingredients. It's also thought that they might affect absorption of the drug making it seem less effective.
My personal experience with dozens of different generics over the years is that there was no difference between the brand name and generics or difference between the different generics themselves and I had no side effects at all.
Best regards and it's likely that your experience will be the same.
