I am about to run out of metoprolol and my prescription won't be delivered for another week or ten days. I have a batch of older tablets. Would it be safe to take them for a few days? Is this medicine like some others which retain potency for longer than the label says?
Can I safely take older (3 years old) metoprolol tablets?

Answers
No you cannot take metoprolol that is three years old. There is a date on the bottle that tells you not to take it after X date and discard. With metoprolol it can increase in strength and weaken after that date, both of which is dangerous.
They may have lost their effect by now.
