I did the same. You have to be tapered off. It can cause racing of the heart.

Absolutely to Suzanne's answer. If you had long term depression before going on Effexor, you are likely to have to go back onto it and then it can be harder for it to work and often takes a higher dose. Just so you know. If you don't like it because of the sexual side effects, I changed to the upgraded Pristiq which brought back my sex drive.

You should talk with your doctor. You should not quit Effexor cold turkey. It needs to be tapered off slowly so as to avoid the withdrawal symptoms you have been experiencing.
