I have taken Miralax for several years to help opioid induced constipation. It eventually stopped working completely. All it does now it make me super bloated sometimes to the point that I can't breathe.
I've found that in emergency situations, magnesium citrate is the way to go. It will clean your colon out completely as it also empties the small intestines.
But for everyday relief, I drink prune juice. A full 8 oz glass of non sweetened prune juice. WORKS GREAT!!! Prune juice has a similar action as magnesium citrate but much gentler because it is natural and plus your body won't get dependant on it.
I also take 2 capsules of Colace stool softner every morning as well.
Miralax takes a while you to work. You have to take it every day for a few days. Its not my favorite laxative to recommend. If you start with bad abdominal pain, from the constipation, then its time to go to the hospital, but I doubt the miralax will do anything to you. If in doubt you can call the poison control center and ask them, 800-222-1222. I would suggest you drink alot of water, and eat foods with fiber and drink fruit juice. That would help you. A stool softener such as colace can help too. Milk of Magnesia is a gentle laxative if you need one.
