I have had three strokes on antihypertensives, and the beta blocker was the worst. This is not the case with people who do not take them with lithium, probably, but my experience with them has made me avoid them like the plague. The beta blockers, of which propranolol is one, tend to slow the heart rate, so I am not sure of your higher heart rate.
