It's a good question, except one important piece is missing: the chances of hair loss is low. The chance of helping for autoimmune (especially scarring alopecias) is high. Hydroxychloroquine does not help all hair loss types but does help conditions such as lichen planopilaris, frontal fibrosing alopecia, pseudopelade and discoid lupus. Hair loss from these drugs is not common.
