I was taking 10mg of Crestor PO daily. I recently switched to Pravastatin and the MD ordered 40mg PO daily. I was wondering if Pravastatin is really that much less potent and is this the bottom dose?
Pravastatin VS. Crestor - what are equivalent doses?

Pravastatin is very weak 80 mg is equal to 20 lipitor and 20 lipitor is equal to 5mg creator . If you go on the internet and look at statin dose equivalency charts. I hope this helps
This answer helped... just put on 80 mg Pravastatin and was concerned it was much high than I thought should be... did not realize is much weaker than most... hopefully Dr. will check and do labs at least every six months... checking for liver damage, etc.
The usual adult dose of Pravastatin for Hyperlipidemia:
Initial dose: 40 mg once daily.
Maintenance dose: 40 to 80 mg once daily.
The recommended starting dose of CRESTOR is 10 mg once daily.
The dosage may be increased up to 40mg daily depending on lipid levels.
Yes, Crestor is more potent than Pravastatin, so a smaller dosage is needed to achieve the same result.
