General guidelines around Motrin 800: "The maximum amount of ibuprofen for adults is 800 milligrams per dose or 3200 mg per DAY (4 maximum doses)." Use the lowest effective dose to relieve your discomfort.

Do not exceed 800mg/8 hours if this is an individual of average size, weight and has no other pathophysiology (disease states, problems with health etc). So do not take 4 at once. Do not exceed 800mg at a time.
