MiraLax - I have constipation due to internal hemorrhoids. Feces must be practically liquified. Will

Please clarify. A prescription for MiraLax or a prescription for something stronger? I made my doctor aware of the fact that everything needs to be practically liquified and he still recommended MiraLax.

Sorry, I should have been more specific, I meant something other than Miralax, which is a great product, just remember it works slowly, so do not take more than it says (unless your Dr says it's ok) because the delayed reaction will be unpleasant, no matter how loose you want the stool, overdoing this product will have you in the bathroom more than any other room. So, if the Miralax was Dr recommended, then go with it.

Thank you for getting back to me. After I explained that it would have to nearly liquify, I asked for a prescription for a laxative. He said he would give me one if I wanted but to try Miralax first because it doesn't cause gas and/or bloating, which aggravates the hernia that has developed in recent years. He's aware of the hernia, of course. He was the one who first diagnosed it. I may have neglected to mention the hernia in my original question. If I did, I should have. That's going to be operated on sometime after the internal hemorrhoid situation is remedied. It's the second day of Miralax and I don't notice anything yet. He said to continue on prune juice until it kicks in. He went on to say that the prune juice may hasten the "kicking in" of Miralax but didn't explain how. Thanks again for your input.

Ut's notal for Miralax to take up to 3-days to work, butt hat's one of the reasons it's such a good product, gentle yet effective. All he means by "hasten" is the prune juice (whole prunes are a bit better) alone will help, as does fiber in general.

Thank you so much! Once I'm sure that MiraLax has taken over and I can stop the prune juice, I will certainly get back to you and let you know how it's working. I'll be glad when it does take over. Prune juice is very effective as a laxative, but I spend about an hour waiting for it to act and then another four hours getting rid of the gas and bloating before I can even think of leaving the house. The gas and bloating makes the hernia the major source of pain. Thank God I'm retired. I couldn't imagine being able to go to work first thing every morning, as I did for forty one years.

If you get some of the whole dried pitted prunes (if you have a Trader Joe's they have em at a great price) you can pop a few every day, they're really not that bad and it's a good habit, very helpful.

I put them in my salad, or just pop a few here and there as a snack. Thanks for the responses.

I have one further question: I notice that people take Miralax daily as opposed to taking it for one specific instance. I've read where people have up to 4 and 5 bowel movements per day. Some claim to take it for a year or more. Am I correct in assuming that, once Miralax takes effect after a few days, I will not feel that sense of "I have to go right now" that often accompanies the use of laxatives that are designed to be taken for specific instances? I can't imagine people who take it regularly (excuse the expression) putting up with the sense of urgency 4 or 5 times per day.

In this age of misinformation it's east to allow everything we read to take a foothold. No, Miralax is simply a softer, and when used as directed will make it easier to go, not give you the "oh no the fuse it about to hit the dynamite" feeling.
