I am 60 and have been on cymbalta for almost ten years. It has been the ONLY SSRI that had ever helped. It has also destroyed my sex life. I have severe ed, ejaculation dysfunction and total lack of libido. I haven't had sex or the desire of it literally for years but the fear of the depression keeps me going on it.my wife of forty years has stayed with me but when I think about it I don't know why. Wellbutrin was one of the many failed drugs so it isn't an option. I have used injectable anti ed drugs in order to try to function for her but it is extremely difficult without desire to have sex. I've been toying with going off of the cymbalta despite my fear as sex used to mean so much to me.
Gotenks; You already have some good answers and just about all the medications in this group have this problem, But don't worry tell your doctor about this it's nothing to be embarrassed about and I know my doctor had a list of which medications worked best to take care of this problem Just in case DR. DOES not say much the 3 I remember was Wellbutrin sr, Buspar, and Viagra to name a few the Wellbutrin worked the best for myself. It is very important that you continue to take your medication as directed So make sure to ask your doctor there are ways around this.
Hi, Gotenks! The Physician's Desk Reference reports that in clinical/field trials 3% of Cymbalta users reported a decrease in libido. 1.5% of subjects receiving a placebo also reported the same effect.
Not that this information helps if you're in that 3%. Talk to your doctor ~ there are medications that can correct this or you might consider switching to a more neutral antidepressant.
Good luck!! WCV

The Arizona sexual experience scale, used to identify sexual side effects, was used prospectively in 4 major depressive disorder placebo-controlled trials showed that male patients treated with duloxetine (the active ingredient contained in Cymbalta) experienced significantly more sexual dysfunction than patients treated with placebo.[Ref]
Common (1% to 10%): Abnormal orgasm/anorgasmia, decreased libido, delayed ejaculation, ejaculation disorder, erectile dysfunction, urinary frequency
Uncommon (0.1% to 1%): Abnormal urine odor, dysuria, gynecological hemorrhage, menopausal symptoms, micturition urgency, nocturia, pollakiuria, polyuria, sexual dysfunction, testicular pain, urinary hesitation
Rare (less than 0.1%): Decreased urine flow, galactorrhea, menstrual disorder, urinary retention.
I'm not a male, but I can share that many antidepressants adversely affect libido. Unfortunate side effect, but true.
