Which statin has the least side effects?
My husband is having a problem with extreme fatigue, muscle pain, and severe tinnitus since starting a statin, rosuvastatin, a couple of weeks ago. I would like to know if anyone is taking something that comes with less side effects. These side effects are not at a tolerable level for him with this med. Are there better ways, more tolerable meds, to lower the "bad" cholesterol levels, the LDL levels, that is? (the ones that cause plaque in the arteries)
If he continues to take it, will the side effects subside soon? -or-
Will the side effects go away when he stops taking it? I read some reviews where people claimed that their side effects continued after stopping the med.
Anyone have anything helpful to contribute in the way of suggestions here?
Thank you in advance!

What are the side effects of fenofibrate?
loss of appetite, nausea, pains in stomach, side, or abdomen, possibly radiating to the back, vomiting. This medicine may increase your risk of having gallstones. Check with your doctor right away if you have severe stomach pain, especially after eating, with nausea and vomiting.Nov 1, 2022
I switched from simvastatin (Zocor) to atorvastatin (lipitor) several years ago. Neither caused me any side effects. I switched only because my doc says atorvastatin is a "better drug". I have no experience with rosuvastatin, but I notice that it is actually rated higher than atorvastatin and simvastatin on Drugs.com with fewer side effects mentioned. I've also read articles that claim simvastatin has the fewest side effects. It may depend on what other drugs your husband is taking. So, this is a subject that he will want to discuss with his doc.
I found that taking a lower dose made a big difference, if he takes 20mg try 10mg and see if it controls.
I used a statin medication years ago and suffered the side effects of muscle pain and fatigue also. Unfortunately with my thyroid and arthritis issues it took me a while to figure out it was the statins and not my other issues! My Dr put me on a med that was not a statin medication which worked well for me. I can't remember the name at the moment, but has your husband discussed a non-statin med with his Dr?
Thank you Lisa, I appreciate the information. I wish you could recall what that medication was that helped instead of a statin. It would be so helpful.
Thanks!
The medication was called Fenofibrate. I hope this helps!

Thank you so much, Lisa. I will look into it. I already made him an appt with his doctor about this problem, so I will talk with her about it then.
You're so very welcome. I wish you and your husband good luck in finding a viable substitute for his medication. As I've gone through the side effects he's currently suffering, I know just how miserable it is. Best of luck!

G Mc; Sorry the problem is like, with any other medication on the market, We all react differently to which side effects affect us or Jim or john. I really wish there was one with less but just the STATIN pretty much seems to affect your husband.I am going to keep looking but it's slim my dear friend. chuck1957
G Mc; I DO SEE THAT IF THE CHOLESTEROL IS HIGH YOU ARE MORE LIKELY TO GET THE TENDINITIS AND AS THE STATIN DRUG LOWERS THE BAD CHOLESTEROL THE TENDINITIS SHOULD GET BETTER
AND ALSO THIS QUOTE. Inner ear specialist and tinnitus authority, Michael Seidman, MD state that it is imperative for people with tinnitus to reduce or eliminate their use of salt, simple sugars, saturated and trans-fats, nicotine, caffeine, and alcohol. CHUCK1957
Thanks Chuck: I will pass this information on to my husband. Appreciate it!
