Do not drink alcohol for at least 15-20 hours (3 days to be safe) if you have taken Meloxicam, especially over 7.5mg. I made the mistake of drinking Korean wine while taking Meloxicam for severe gout (it also works for gout arthritis). I thought that it would be fine to drink after digesting the Meloxicam, so after taking 15mg of Meloxicam in the morning around 9am, I drank around 7pm before dinner. It's not the pills in your stomach that disrupts the stomach lining, it's the medicine itself. Meloxicam inhibits/stops an enzyme COX-1+2 or cyclooxygenase from protecting your stomach, which allows alcohol to burn through your stomach mucus and damage the lining. My feces or stool was black filled with dead blood for at least 3 months afterwards. I think I still have a stomach ulcer as spicy food upsets my stomach even after 6 months.
Never finding a redeeming value to alcohol, I will say its not safe to drink with meds. It really isn't a smart idea to drink when taking NSAIDS because you increase the risk of bleeding in your stomach.
Right. I wasn't going to mix the two. But was wondering what a safe amount of time is after taking the med. For example, is it out of my stomach after 24 hrs? I am a bit of a wine connoisseur and just want to make sure I am waiting long enough between taking the med and drinking. Thank you.
Here's why it increases the chance of bleeding. Alcohol effects your liver, thereby decreasing the clotting ability of blood. Then the NSAID causes irritation in your stomach. That causes bleeding, and your blood isn't going to clot as fast. Now you get the pic? Its not a matter of time. Its not an interaction between the two, its an effect on your body by each individually.
so are you saying if some takes one pill even then stops they can't ever drink? You are not being clear!
I think the person before me was just basically asking how long it takes to get out of your system.
Yes although i found her comment interesting about the redeeming value of alcohol. Which is probably true really. Glad they are legalising something less harmful and devastating.
The inquiring was being very responsible asking their question. And wanting to know how how long to wait until they were safe to drink. And she did not actually answer that question.
Last comment says they are coming out with something less harmful to your stomach than meloxican. What is it? I am concerned about my stomach if i take it, already have GERD.
I think it’s maybe Mother Nature’s alternative being referred to, which has been around for a long time, but is gaining legalized acceptance nationwide.
Op call your dr and ask.. your getting no answers here.. if it were me... I’d wait 24 hours.
