If anyone has ever taken this medication some feedback would be great. I was just prescribed 5 mg for the first week followed by 10 mg after that. Is that strong enough? How many mg's is enough for my brain to react to it. Iam worried that that's too much of a tiny dose and it won't do anything. My state of mind is so bad I would like to be on the highest dose possible. Any side effects with this drug? Iam also taking zyprexa so hopefully this would be a good combo. Thanks in advance!

I had been on Wellbutrin xl and it seemed to slowly stop working- my dr gave me 5 mgs for transition and 10mg after. It made me sick and headache so after a week, I stopped it. ***HOWEVER *** I read a suggestion to take it at night and I was desperate! Besides, I continued to read so many good things. I did that and after a couple of weeks I started noticing a difference and it is good. I kept taking it at night but after about a month, I started waking up about 2 hours early so I changed to morning and have been doing this for about a year now. Not numb, but days where I’m blah- I chalk it up to normalcy that I haven’t felt in years! It’s weird that I have to remind myself of that! Good luck and best wishes!
I too just prescribed 5 mg for two weeks. I asked if that is strong enough and I was told for now then we will bump it up ~ when??? She didn't say. I too feel the same that 5 mg for however long the doctor 'thinks' isn't enough. The side effect I have found is the nausea and sleepiness overly! Pharmacist told me to take at night for couple of weeks to sleep through those 2 side effects then start taking in morning with my other antidepressent. I hope this works because so far, I feel nothing either. Just as sad, depressed, anxious, and all that. Good luck to us all!!
I just started taking this drug and wanted to let everyone that is taking it and is suffering from nausea to get some Verners soda/pop and only Verners. Get some with a twist top carry it with you when you feel nauseous. That's what I was told by my doctor to do. I bought some but haven t been nauseous yet. Hope this helps
Only with time will you know what dose is best for you. Meds, meditation, therapy, exercise worked for me. Good luck!
My Pain Management Physician started me on 5th then bumped my dose to 10mg. & I have had no improvement in mood, sleep habits or depth of depression. And in the 6 weeks I have been taking this medication, I have lost 14 lbs. Not good.
The paper on Trintellix states mood, sleep, and appetite can improve in weeks 1-2. Depression and major depressive disorder will take about 6-8 weeks for improvement. You taking an average dose which I also take (10mg) for only a week or two won't cure your entire mind yet. 20mg is the max dose and is worked up to if 10mg fails after say 6 weeks. Give your body time bc the higher doses too quickly can give side effects like anxiety, insomnia, diarrhea, nausea/vomiting, and others. This is why we take it slow. Don't worry, your correct unique dose will be revealed and may surprise you. Some people take just 5mg for over 2 years and love it.
I’v been taking Trintellix for about a year now and it’s been working awesome for me. I do have occasional nausea but I just eat a few saltines and it settles. I’v been working out and trying to eat healthier and that seems to help as well. Plus drinking plenty of water.
Oh and I am on 20mg in the mornings.
I started July 19 and I’m just now seeing my mood lift and life feels exciting again .
I’m on 10 mg daily .
Two years on sertraline with zero benefit. Still had depressed days, gained weight, eventually the bad days were outweighing the good ones. Just wasn’t the right medicine for me.
Diagnosed at same time as Trintellix was prescribed (this week). Placebo effect for me is likely the relief that I know what’s been causing my thoughts/moods. I am on my fourth day on 5mg. Will bump up to 10mg in three days. The placebo effect has worn off and now I’m waiting for the medicine to take effect.
Has anyone used Clonazepam in the interim and if so, what was your experience?
Yes my doctor suggested i take clonazepam if my anxiety was high and that happened for about 3 days the week of the 10 mg
Klonopin is great for anxiety. I took it for 12 years before I was forced off it because I take Percocet for pain and the CDC doesnt want patients mixing a benzo and narcotic due to overdose. I took it for 6 years together and Im still breathing but I had to stop. I LOVED taking Klonopin it helped my anxiety greatly. Good Luck ❤
I'm sure it is different for everyone, and I'm almost POSITIVE I'm experiencing a placebo effect, but I feel so incredibly clear-headed on DAY 2 of this medicine (starting at 5mg). There's no way it's the medicine... right? Either way, I am not complaining.
I was on Effexor for 4 years with no real change (but too lazy/annoyed to get it fixed). I switched to Cymbalta for 5 months and felt completely terrible all the time. I was off medication completely for 2 weeks and felt reaaaally terrible. On Trintellix for 2 days and I'm feeling great?! I think I'm just too hopeful for a drug that actually works. Time will tell.
Hi Painpiller - curious about how your experience with Trintellix changed over time. I just started it today and am feeling energized and more clear-headed than I have in many years (been on SSRIs or mood stabilizers for about 20 years). Seems too good to be true!
Hi! I started 5mg trintellix about a month ago. I noticed slight improvement in my crying and depressing thoughts but increased to 10mg about 1-2 weeks ago and I have noticed much better improvement in both as well as overall mood improvement. My doctor told me it would take several weeks (6-8) to notice any improvement at all and I found that was well over my experience. I would say the 5mg improved within 2 weeks and then leveled slightly and the 10mg has been helping improve since about the first full week on it.
Hi! Im taking 20 mg Trintellix once a day in the morning. With this drug it seems common to start at 5, then 10, then 20 if needed, 2 weeks on each dosage. I dont think you can jump onto it at max dose, body needs to get used to it a bit at a time to see at which dose you can stay at. Besides the side effects could turn you off it if you start too strong. It's been a great drug for me having tried many others! I wish you luck and you feel better on it!!
I have been on Trintellix for 1 month. First week at 5 mg., past 3 weeks at 10 mg. I still feel nauseated at times, am constipated, have lots of eye issues and get brain "zings." I saw my dr yesterday and he wants me to continue at this dose and I am to meet with a a counselor once a week. I am having lots of ups and downs. Very stressful dreams also. I've suffered with depression for over 30 years. My dad was bi-polar and struggled all his life. I was taking Zoloft for many years before Trintellex and I am so hoping this helps. If you trust your dr., then I would continue with his med. plan. I know I just want to feel better. I'm sure you do too. Best of luck to you.
I am still struggling with it too. I am on 10mg right now and just dont feel like myself, I feel numb inside and dont like it. Gonna keep trying for a couple more months and hope it changes. Good luck to you!
Hey,
I've been on 10mg of Brintellix for 9 days. I didn't experience any side effects at first and instantly felt my mood improve (probably just a placebo effect). But during the last three days I've felt awful (really low and helpless), have had a strange headache, and haven't been able to sleep although I am also taking something else to help with my sleep. Has anyone had a similar situation? Is it normal? I hope this medication starts to work soon.
Hi —
I was googling this because I had the same instant mood boost on 10 mg. I have only been on it two days - haven’t really had any side effects - one headache, but I took Tylenol and it went away. Sleeping so far is ok but my doc. Said take in a.m., but maybe that is just for me. Good luck!
I was on 5mg Trintellix for 1 week, then 10mg for one week. I had side effects of sweating, itching and dizziness. But the worse by far was the depression. It wasn’t until day 13 that I noticed an improvement in the depression. Thank God I stuck with it. Hopefully it continues this way.
I am having a similar result. It is almost 2 weeks for me, now. I stopped taking protriptolyne when I started Trintellix (same thing as Brintellix, I believe). I'm thinking if this isn't going to work for another month or more, I shouldn't have changed antidepressants so abruptly.
I am only on 5 mgs. and have literally "come out of the closet", which is where I was spending ALL my time since I could NOT face the world or even the daylight. I am nauseous and a bit lightheaded but the difference is quite honestly night and day. PLEASE just give it a chance.
I'm at 2.5 weeks, i just hope i can hang in there. Nausea, vomiting. And just feeling worthless is what I'm dealing with.
How long have you been on 5mg? That is what I am on for the past 4 days, and I’m having a really hard time.
For 7 or 8 years, I was on Cymbalta which had to be combined with Abilify in order to work for me. I had to wean off of Abilify because it was raising my blood sugar. Once off, my blood sugar returned to normal. But I couldn’t take Cymbalta without Abilify. So I was put on Fetzima. I quit after 5 days due to extreme sweating and itching. Now I am on day 6 of Trintellix and already feel better. No more crying, only a few bouts of moderate sweating. I think this may be the one. I hope I’m not speaking too soon.
Lydia I feel the same I was on 5mg for 2 months and almost done with my 1st month on 10mg but I dont feel like me anymore... I feel kinda numb inside and dont like this feeling. Gonna give it a few more weeks to see if it changes. Good luck to you!
you dont know how lucky you are. If I were you, I would hug every single person on earth. 9 years struggling with depression and have tried so many things. Now three months on Trintellix adn still not back to normal. and on a 26mg dosage, Dont know what else to try. I just wish I have a heart attack and leave this world. BUt, I have two children..
OrtizX5, how are you feeling now? Any better?

10 mg is the initial loading dose for Trintellix to avoid or minimize any potential side effects. Some improvement may be apparent in the first few weeks, but it usually takes 4~6 weeks to feel the full benefit and 6~8 weeks to achieve steady sate therapeutic blood levels.
Try to be patient when starting an antidepressant because they will work very effectively for almost everyone.
