I'm experiencing side effects such as itchiness and am wondering how long before these symptoms go away.

I took this at a very low dose and have an unbearable echoing in my ears, I stopped the meds 48 hours and still have the sound effects going on, when will stop?
My doctor prescribed me a 10 mg dose twice a day. I have been taking the bus par for three weeks. Last week I started having uncontrollable panic attacks. Then on Saturday I woke up and felt like I was swimming in glue. I have started to taper off but from everything I've read bus par has no withdrawal symptoms, I have a job interview on Monday. Should I just stop now considering from what I've read here that it only stays in your system for 24 hours?
Hi Mrstafford: I have felt those same feelings when I was taking 10mg doses of buspar, although I was able to tolerate that dose for a few months (I think, not sure). I was fine at 5 mg doses. But for whatever reason, after a period of time of 10mg doses, I started to feel very dizzy, headachy, and more anxious. And increased intolerable ringing in my ears! My doctor and I decided together for me to go back to the lower doses of 5 mgs. and I did fine once again.
It's true that buspar has no withdrawal symptoms for most people.
But, if I were you, I would not risk putting myself in the position of not knowing how you will react for sure when you quit taking it, that is, I would definitely not quit right before a job interview, which is a situation in itself that causes more than the usual anxiety! You say you are tapering off, I assume you mean that you are on lower doses now? It would probably be a good idea to stick at the present dose until you are through with your interview.
I took buspar successfully for a year and a half, at different doses during that time. For me personally, I did the best at the low doses of 5 mgs. It kept me less anxious and with less side effects. When I finally did go off of it, I tapered from 2 doses a day to one a day, and never had a problem. I no longer take buspar, but I think it was very helpful for me during a very stressful time in my life. Just thought I would share my personal experience. Good luck on your job interview - I am sure you will do great.
Thank you soo much for sharing your personal experience. I stopped taking it and I feel much better today. I was also able to sleep for more than 3 hours. I don't understand how medication designed to treat anxiety can make us soo anxious. And I don't feel like I'm swimming in glue anymore. From everything else I've read I should feel better and better every hour as it leaves my system.
I can't thank you enough for sharing your story and making me feel less alone in this whole thing.

Buspar want last long because its not a benzo like klonopin. I take buspar and honestly its a joke. It in no way releives my anxiety. I am used to taking five milligrams of xanix and eight milligrams of klonopin a day but my doctor want presribe them anymore due to Im taking vyvanse for my add. Please tell me if buspar actually relieves your anxiety. I have taken two to three hundred milligrams of it and it does nothing. Thanks. Kevin
I've been taking buspar for about 5 years (?). These symptoms (numb/tingley toes and itching) started up a few months ago. I didn't take any this morning, still have symptoms now. Was wondering how long before the drug left my system to know whether or not buspar is causing the symptoms
Kevingh IT MAY NOT WORK FOR YOU, but it does for many and anyone to take more and more you are getting close to a toxic dose do you have a spare liver hanging around. I have taken it many time on as need basis and gotten relief not as good as Klonopin or Xanax but enough to cut the edge off. You must be careful it's still a drug taking more does not make it better. We don't need to scare someone with mild anxiety.
I agree with you ,anything good and a employer will except I am a commercial driver
Buspar is a joke. Doesn't work for me at all. Makes me dizzy and tired. I was taking the generic brand of Prozac and that worked for both my anxiety and depression with no side effects at all.
Yes but don't make everyone think that before they try it. Lots of people it works great for then there is us it is not worth a crap. But I found if I take a lower dose I get more out of it then the high dose crazy. chuck1957
I suppose it could always come down to proper dosage. Anything over 10 mg for me and I can barely stand up. It's like having the worst hangover in the world. But that could just be me.
Right that is what I mean is what works for one is not worth a crap, Then another it works as good as a benzo. So don't want to discourage anyone from giving it a try. I don't remember if it was you I was talking to that many people can't do the 10mg twice or three times daily or feel like crap but you take 1/2 and for some reason, it works much better. strange but as long as it works. Have a good day
When ever you are trying to figure out how long a drug well show up in your system it has nothing to do with if it is a benzo or not. each drug is different and how fast it clears your blood system level and you and that has to do with the 1/2 life of the medication not that it is a benzo there are many drugs that stay in the system a lot longer than Ativan, Xanax Valium AND kLONOPIN so never go off the type of medication go off the Half life of the medication or you could easily get busted for dui even on our prescription medications.
So many things are wrong with this comment. No doctor would be prescribing Klonopin nor Xanax in those quantities as those are insanely high doses. The absolute maximum approved dosage of Xanax for an adult is 4mg per day (not all in one dose, but spread out over multiple doses spaced apart), and oftentimes people are on far less than that and get a therapeutic response. Also, that is a stupidly high amount of buspirone which you are claiming you have taken. Assuming this is not just a trolling post, you need help because you have a drug problem.
kcm; IF you just started the Buspar and think your having side effects going off the 1/2 life of this medication it should be out of your system anywhere from 18 to 24 hours What you could do is go to the Pharmacy and make sure you tell your pharmacist about this and have them recommend something for the itching looking at anything else you are taking such as CTM 4 mg or generic Benadryl (diphenhydramine) one or the other well help the itching. But ask the Pharmacist if that is okay.

KCM; ok it would be highly unlikely that you would have not had this side effect prior to 5 years of using BuSpar My answer is not going to change much because Buspar clears the system pretty fast but even taking it over 5 years at the very most it would be clear out of your system in 24 to 48 hours. You should check with the doctor if the itching and burning etc continues could be something different. But lucky when Buspar works good for some of us and it does not build up like other medications so you should know by this time tomorrow at least. have a good day. Please let me know if you notice any difference there is always a chance but I have not seen this happen Chuck1957 enjoy your day.
