I need something for muscle spasms in my back, but does not affect my ability to function.
Is there a good muscle relaxer that doesn't cause drowsiness?

Massage therapy works good too. Deep muscle massages with warm oils will definitely relax your back. Hot baths with Epsom Salts may help. That's about all I can think of that's not medication related. Hopefully you have someone willing to do the massages for you.
Good luck to you!

Great Christine & Marjorie Zych... the advice/suggections should be helpful
I have had about every muscle relaxer out there, it will be hard to find one that doesn't have that effect. Sometimes Soma (not soma compound)can help or Robaxin also. Flexeril usually does cause tiredness but helps out quite a bit, depending on your tolerance level the Flexeril may be your best bet, your system will probably get used of the side effects and you may not even notice them after a while. Hope this info helps some, hope you feel better soon, marjorie zych
