I posted earlier about the anxiety and sleep difficulties with latuda. I am currently taking 60mg, up from two weeks ago on 20mg for ten days. I have been suffering from the anxiety and restlessness others have described with various meds. Latuda is the first one I have been on this long, almost two weeks. I tried saphris, abilify and Seroquel xl.The anxiety was compounded by losing twenty five pounds. (I am sick of trying to force feed myself to gain weight so I just started drinking Ensure to add weight. I know it can cause constipation.) Then I realized I wanted sugar, honey, and/or chocolate. The most satisfying was small spoonfuls of honey. The sugar was lacking from my new Latuda diet. I can't drink any sodas or eat junk food anymore and am drinking a lot of green tea and eating living foods as best I can besides the ensure. This is all new to me and I am grateful the honey helped stop a lot of the anxiety I have with this medication. It seems my diet has been given a one-eighty. This change is truly mind and personality blowing.
Started taking latuda for BP II, and was told it would put me to sleep as well as help w/depression: 1:50 a.m. and I'm still up. This has been going on for almost two weeks. I'm calling my shrink tomorrow. Latuda hasn't made any difference for me, except that I'm sleep deprived and more depressed. I'm also taking Pristiq (150 mg); Toppamax (100 mg); Ambien (10 mg), and Xanax (.05 mg). Was told to stop taking Xanax (2 mg) and titrate down. Not leaving my house, not feeling well, not showering... I'm upset and for good reason... MT
I tried Pristiq a couple of years ago, and I couldnt even get out of bed because of it! Ambien is also pretty hard on your regular sleep schedules too. I think you have just too many pills on board and its some sort of chemical side affect. Good Luck!
my new pa just prescribed latuda to take with my lithium which i have been on for several years . i have bp and ptsd i have tried alot of drugs throughout the years. i am very hopeful that this is the one i just want to feel like everyone or at least close . my fears are the same as usual the side effects
I was put on it 2 days ago for borderline and anger/ homicidal thoughts. I really am having mixed feelings about it because I don't want to gain weight. But there aren't any pills that don't control anger but won't make you fat, right??? I also have a medical condition I take topamax for so other drugs might interact with. I don't know? I just wonder does this make you really gain? All the side effect lists say it does and it shouldn't be on the less severe list it should be at the very top of the warning label!!!
I have mood disorder and deperssion and ADHD. I have tried alot of differnet mood stablizers. like geodon, zyprexa, depakote, trilptal, tegratol, abilify. probably more I have tried. I am Not intersetd in Topamax because my mom was on that and she got a kidny stone. and I am not intested in Lithum because of the blood work. anyone have any suggestions.
I am very sensitive to medication. I am on Lexipro 20 mg. in the AM, Latuda after dinner 20 mg., and Remeron 15mg. at bedtime. I have mixed bi polar and rapid cycling. Latuda has really helped keep
my thoughts from racing, I have clarity of mind, and I am happy. It's a good medication for me and I appreciate being on a low dose because it's so new.
I was taking abilify for years, and just within the last 8 months I've gained like 40-50 lbs. So now Im on Latuda, hoping it will help. My dr. thinks it will.
I have been struggling with Bipolar Disorder for several year now .I have tried almost every medication available without any success and was starting to think that there was no hope for me.That is until now! My Doctor FINALLY decided to try me on Latuda. It is a wonderful medication! It has changed my life. For the first time in my adult life I feel like I am able to function like a "normal person"!I don't even need my mood stabilizers anymore. I would highly reccomend anyone with hard to treat Bipolar Disorder to give it a try!
hi bames my names brian my dr put me on it about two weeks ago and i have bipolar 1 it is working fantasticly it doesnt make me sick or sluggish i can sleep at night with it i really like it i was on a lot of stuff before well i think me and my dr found something really great i know its new but they need to priscribe it for bipolar disorder
Thank You Brian. I am Bipolar 2 but a year ago when I was in the hospital they told me to try latuda. Its for skitzopherenia but will be ok'd "soon" for bipolar disorder. I took it and its been a miracle for me. Thank you for your comment Brian.
I hv been taking Latuda for one month. My doc is using it as a mood stabilizer. We r trying this newer one r/t my terrible side effects to most of the older ones. I am on smallest dose of 40 mg at bedtime. So far no side affects. This is what they call an "off label" use. Can't say i have noticed much of any affects good or bad. Of course we all know this can take some time. I just pray and hope for the best. Second best being no rediculous sides . We are trying to keep me from dipping to far on the depression while avoiding a manic episode which are increased when on high dodes of antidepressants.(effexor,trazodone). I will keep posted if anything goes awry or no improvement noticed in the comming weeks.
I'm considering Latunda as an anti-anxiety med - I've been on Pristiq for a year and it's been fantastic for me (bp2) - but, still have some anxiety at night. Has anyone been on both of these?
Sorry my last post got cut off.usimg my "smart " phone haha. But a side effect i noticed was that all my undue anx issues disapeared.not sure of anyone else has had this miracle.but i still suffer w my bipolar issues and have neen on em all.i never find people who have same side effects.i believe the latuda along w the neurontin and a good new therapist habe me deeling awesome
I was looking at suicide just a few mos ago
Sry bout spellin phone thing
I will begin this med tonite for the exact same reason. I will post any info i get
through its use. This is my 10th med in 2+years. Here we go again . Would also appreceate any info avail now.
I too am just starting this medicine along with invega. I am bipolar/manic depression with mixed epsisodes, with skizo effective disorder also. Over the past ten years, i have been on and tried more then 75 different medications. But i'm hanging in there hoping i will find the right combination. so just imagine how skeptical i am, i feel like a lab rat, whichever medicine the doctors office gets in from the pharmacutical companies, they just decide to try you on,, or at least that has been my experience with over 7 shrinks i have seen over the years. Excuse my spelling, i've been up for a while and am a little sleep deprived. But i am starting this med tonight and going to keep a journal so i will maybe post back in a week and let you know the results,, you should too. Hope it goes well...
Thanks for your input, and GOOD LUCK!
I have been on latuda for about three months and I'm diagnosed schizophrenic and bipolar and it's used for both with me. The worst side effect I had was stiff rigid muscles. My foot and mouth would lock up for hours on end and it drove me crazy so my doctor prescribed me cogentin and it's been working great ever since.
To Teach, the woman who was wondering about Latuda causing birth defects.
I'm looking at product insert paper (the long description which comes with the drug) They say that in their rat and rabbit studies that no birth defects were found. They do say, however, that the use of Latuda during the 3rd trimester of pregnancy has resulted in infants being born with a number of different problems that have sometimes required "intensive care unit support and prolonged hospitalization".
In short, the insert paper says:"Latuda should be used in pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus"
I hope this helps,

I have the long blurb; it contains a BLACK BOX warning not recommended for diabetics; I am diabetic. The blood sugar surged from 7-20 on my meter. It discourages me that drs. do not read the blurbs.
I've been taking latuda for 4 mo. with depakote the only problem I'm having is tremor, but my mood is good. right know i'm not considering changing. the side effect is just irritating
Cogentin is a very good medication to eliminate tremors. Hopefully, you feel better now.
Now I am confused as to whether my husband is considered bipolar or schizophrenic?
Nothing is definitive in Psychiatry. So just work on treating the symptoms and if it works and doesn't make him a head shorter (pun intended) don't fret about the titles. Generally bipolar is more episotic with psychosis while schizophrenia is more psychosis but this is always open to interpretation. Since the Dr. isn't on board to witness him as you do, you probably know more on what his symptomotology is. Read more and you'll still be confused.
I was too and I asked the DR., my 18 yr old son,he sAID HE WAS BIPOLAR,MY SON HEARS VOICES SOMETimes
I just started on Latuda for BP four days ago for Bipolar I. My new Pdoc suggested it, and he's great. He discusses everything with me, and answers all my questions, and ultimately I decide what I'm going to take, with his guidance. I used to take Zyprexa with Depakote, but another doctor replaced the Zyprexa with Lamictal when my old doc retired. I got much, much worse - hallucinations, suicidal, depressed, etc. I drifted away from going anywhere, and finally quit meds altogether.
A few months ago, my therapist introduced me to this new Pdoc, who is a psychopharmacologist like my old one who'd retired. He said we could go back to the Zyprexa/Depakote combo since it'd worked so well, but that there were newer atypicals now that have far fewer side effects, Latuda being one of those. He did tell me it hasn't yet been approved for BP, that it's used off-label for that for now but won't be long till approval comes.
I've had absolutely no side effects so far (5 days) but I take it exactly as he instructed me - with dinner, at least 350 calories, for best absorption as another poster mentioned. I'm hoping to get back to normal with this combination.
My husband has just started latuda hoping to help with the depressive side of bipolar which he has been in for three years at least. We just started this week, so I don't know how it's working, except it does make him sleepy after taking at night. We started on 1/2 of a 40 mg. pill with another psych visit in two weeks. Apparently they haven't mad a 20 mg. pill yet.
What effects have you seen from this medicine? Yes, I totally trust our psychopharamacologist. If she says it's being used off-label for bp, it's because she has that information from Stanford, one of the schools doing the research.
Love to know your feelings about it. Janice
Make sure that it's taken with/after a 350 calorie meal, otherwise it won't metabolize. Watch for the EPS... on 40 mgs. The labelling on the package for schiz not bp... that just means the pharmacutical co. hasn't done all the testing but guaranteed it's just a matter of time... expect autism on the same label too. Now if they could just eliminate the EPS.
Cogentin is an excellent drug to counteract side effects. It has been in use for many years. Remember that bipolar disorder is very similar to schizophrenia: the only difference is the amount of psychosis. Schizophrenics have more/intense psychosis (hearing voices, delusions, etc)
I've been on latuda for a year now. I'm diagnosed as schizoaffective... Both bipolar and schizophrenic ... I find it has helped my mood more than my voices... Which I still hear at times... But my mood which has caused a lot
trouble in my life
Is great really latuda seems to be amazing ... It was unbearable waking up with or without meds (I've Taken almost everything) so far latuda works great... it is a new drug ... So its scary we all know these medications might have deadly sideffects unknow at first... But a risk I have to take . there was no life for me without ... latuda... I had so many bipolar outbursts TRUE STORY one time I went to traffic court couldn't stop yelling at one point the judge said one more word out of me... And I was going to JAIL! From traffic court!!! Thank god I'm calmer now... Hope this has helped someone ... Latuda made me very
anxious at first known as EPS... But not anymore cogentin helped stop
It to the point I don't need meds for EPS too often.
My meds:
Latuda 40mg
Zoloft 100mg
Klonopin &
Cogentin( as needed)
Hello... I have been taking Latuda, 40mg at bedtime with a snack for 8 days... I suffer from disabling depression marked by periods of being unable to leave my room, unable to concentrate, unable to feel anything good or bad... the change was dramatic and quick... on the second morning of taking it,, I woke up singing... this is not mania for me... I can feel things again... joy... love for my husband... pleasure in my kids... I am actually optimistic which I have not felt in years... and no longer contemplate suicide... I also take prozac 20 mg in the morning... and depakote 250 mg at night... hope my experience helps you... :-)
that is good to hear .my son takes depakote anlong with the latuda-thank u
That has been my experience also! It has made my life worth living ! But you do need to take it with food or you can experience a little nausea.latuda is an answer to my prayers!
Started taking Latuda about 6 weeks ago. 40 mg tabs w/ 500mg depakote. Guess it is doing what it is suppose too? feel like I am gaining weight though.Psyche says not suppose to be on antipsychotics for long periods, just as needed to level you?
I am responding to an old post these posts are helpful. Today is my fourth day of Latuda. I am getting bad headaches. I am on 40 mg and 20 mg of Prozac and 150 mg of wellbutrin. Latuda was an addition. I only get to see my doctor once a month or once every two months. I would like my doctor to increase the Latuda to 80 mg as it sounds like from these reviews that 80 mg is the dosage that works. Are other people taking wellbutrin and what dosage?? You comments are very welcome. Thank you for all your input.
I'm having a very similar experience. It's my 4th day. I'm normally extremely agoraphobic, but yesterday I thought about going grocery shopping without anxiety. I feel like a "normal person" for the first time in years. Nausea when I don't take it on a large enough meal, but that is NOTHING compared to the benefits.
