Hi ladysilk. I'm sorry to hear about your anxiety. Really your best bet is to make an appointment with a psychiatrist. Usually a regular doctor won't prescribe these strong benzo's simply because a new patient says they have anxiety. But a psychiatrist will help you get to the underlying causes of the anxiety and is more likely to prescribe them over a regular MD. If you've been prescribed them before, it would also help to bring your medical records and pharmacy printouts to confirm you had these meds in the past. In the meantime, also look for a good MD that'd be willing to continue prescribing meds you may get from the psychiatrist should those visits become too expensive. Living with anxiety is awful and I know it can be very debilitating for many people. I wish you the best of luck and please try to enjoy the holiday.

Most doctors will want to first try the least potent med, and move their way up. It can be well beyond frustrating, but really is only done in order to cover their behinds. If the doctor isn't willing to move onto a benzo, then I'd just hop around doctors until I found one that is willing. Sorry that I don't know of anyone off hand. I'm still totally baffled as to why doctors are so hesitant in prescribing benzos when they're such effective medications. Sure, yes, very addictive, but really, so is just about every other med that acts on the brain. SSRI's, SNRI's, Ultram, Opioids, TCA's, etc. On top of that, benzo's have been around for so long, that they know more about those meds than the SSRI's, making them in many ways more of a safe med vs. the other newer meds that are always pushed.
Good luck, and once again, sorry that I can't be of more help to you!
