I have been taking Hydrocodone/Acetaminophen 10/325's(Imprint "Watson 853) for about 6 months now for chronic pain. I usually take about 3 (30/975) every 6-8 hours. Today, my doctor switched me (for a trial period to see if it works better) from the Hydrocodone/Acetaminophen 10/325's to Oxycodone/Acetaminophen 5/325's (Imprint "512").
I've never taken any Oxycodone before and just wanted to know a little bit more about it in comparison to Hydrocodone. If I was taking 30mg of Hydrocodone every 6-8 hours, what would be the equivalent dose of Oxycodone? Is the "feeling" any different between the two (Granted, I will be taking the equivalent dose, not 30mg of the Oxycodone). I have been scared all day to take any because I don't know if it's going to affect me differently than the Hydrocodone has in the past.
If anybody has some insight on the equivalent dose, the "feeling" you get of of them or any other insight you think I should know, please PLEASE reply to this and let me know.
I'm in quite a bit of pain right now and I'm still scared to take any. I want to know a little bit more about them before I take any.
Thank you for reading this and thank you for your time, I really appreciate it.
Don't worry. Your doctor know's what he's doing. Oxycodone with acetaminophen is 1.5 times more effective at reducing pain than an equal amount of hydrocodone with acetaminophen. You'll find the effect on how your body responds to the drug nearly the same.

I have never heard of a Dr prescribing 3-10 mg Hydrocodone at one time. Honestly, I wouldn't think 1-5 mg of Oxycodone would work. I was switched from 10 mg Hydrocodone to 10 mg Oxycodone and it was more effective.

1.) Your stated dosage in the first few sentences is contradictory. Are you taking 30mg (3 tablets) of "Hydro" every 6 hrs for a total of 90 mg every 6 hrs. or is it 30 mg (in three tablets) total per day. 2.) Regardless, you used the word scared enough times that you should immediately go back and discuss this with your prescriber. 3.) The internet is the "last" place to be getting the assurances you are looking for. Back pain can be a bitch, Good luck with you "prescriber supervised" treatment.

I have been taking the oxycodone for a few years due to mva. Recently, my pharmacy switched to a new supplier and I was given hydrocodone. I have been terribly sick, vomiting, diarrhea and lost 22 lbs.(and I am small to begin with). I now weigh 98lbs. and am seeing a gastro specialist. I am very, very sick due to the change because I have not changed anything else. Plus, tired all of the time, very weak and other problems. I myself don't know what to do. I started taking prilosec and a nausea medication, neither is working. I can not keep any type of food in or down for more than 10 minutes. I may be admitted this week due to the weight loss - and I am starving. I'm going to doctor again this week. Best of luck to anyone with problems and God Bless.

Hope you meant your doctor switched you. A pharmacy can not switch you to a different type of opiate.

Oxy is about 2x stronger than hydrocodone. Proceed with caution. If you get a "buzz high" in your head, then you are probably taking too much or too close together. Even non scored small pills can be approx. bitten in half and put the slobbery unused part back in the bottle, for later. Combining with "even one" alcoholic drink is a really, really bad idea. Go slow and stay in touch with your health provider.

No Oxycodone is not 2x stronger than Hydrocodone. Oxycodone down tends to have a longer half-life so therefore it creates a little bit longer of a pain relief but as far as being twice as strong that is simply not true when comparing oxycodone 5 mg to hydrocodone 5 mg and both have 325 mg of Tylenol in them, they both relieve the pain about the same.

In my experience, there is no comparison between hydrocodone and oxycodone. The latter has just about zero side effects [when taken at the proper dose for your pain issues] while the former has always made me nauseous and constipated while not doind much of a job with pain. To compare one hydro [10/325] to one oxy [5/325] i would be surprised if you are not happy with the result. Oxy is clearly the more effective and less invasive medication

I've taken both in various strengths. OxyContin 5/325 for me is less effective than Hydro 10/325 even though OxyContin is more powerful. 30mg of OxyContin at once is a lot unless you have a high tolerance especially with the APAP in it (Acetaminophen). The feeling from both is similar. Aside from pain relief for me is best described as "warm and fuzzy." A nice feeling and a bonus. ["not taking it for the right reason"] Prude. Itchy is a side effect for some people. OxyContin is available without the APAP if thats a concern. Acetaminophen is hard on the liver. Just noticed you posted 6 years ago. You probably figured all this out by now. Lighten up "right reason" person. Go through Radiation and Chemo for 3 months. A little warm and fuzzy is welcome.

I have been on Hydrocodone for many years with little side effects. I only take them on occasion for fibromyalgia flare ups or pain associated with my condition, and degenerative disc disease or physical activity or travel. They have worked very well for me. Lately, I underwent a knee replacement, and my doc had me on oxycodone. Well, not happy with them at all. The second week, went from one every 4 hours, to every 6 hours. Then, what I thought was a really bad case of the flu... turned out to be my body being dependent on that closer dose and craving the dose that was pushed off to six hours. I was going through withdrawal, and it was horrible! Chills, diarrhea, lots of aches and pains, shaking, no appetite, lethargy and super weak. I then weaned myself off of them very slowly, until I was only one 1/2 tab a day to get through my physical therapy. Now I just take the good old reliable Hydrocodone, when I go to PT, and the rest of my body is getting back to the old self... or in my case, as good as my old self can be. I will NEVER do Oxycodone again. Good luck!

I have taken both and personally feel the oxy was much better at actually relieving pain and giving some quality to life. I could use smaller doses as well and didn't have the tolerance build as quick. The withdrawal though was insane. I had a reprease in my disease and the pain left so I just stopped taking it. I don't think I left bed for a week and definitely couldn't eat well for a month. It's all a trade off. Take the quality of life over the week of hell later.

I'm taking both the norco 10/325 and Percocet 5's. For my headaches but script from dentist from I got 4!wisdon yanked out and were fully impacted. I usually alternate them every 2-3 hrs. I believe the acetaminophen limit has been lowered to 3k per day instead 4k mg daily. But in my opinion, oxycodone 5mg and hydrocodone 10mg are about the same. The only thing about Percocet, Is that it makes me a lot more drowsy, good for night pain. I hope this answered your question.

The reason your probably not feeling any relief from your Watson 10/325 pills is because there's something wrong with those pills, ever since Watson was bought by another company they changed something in the ingredients of the pills. The pharmacy I used to go to switched over to the Watson 10/325 hydrocodone, before they switched they carried the qualitest manufacturer which is the yellow hydrocodone 10/325 and those work really well. So in may of 2016 I went to the pharmacy and filled my prescription and noticed the pills were now white, the pharmacy told me they switched from qualitest to Watson, so I went home and took 1 of the 10/325 watsons and after an hour I noticed that they didn't work at all, so I took another one and still no relief, so within a few days I started taking more because I wasn't getting any relief and I thought maybe I had built a tolerance to them, but even with taking more they still offered no relief.
So a few weeks later I realized I had 3 yellow tabs of the qualitest 10/325 hydrocodone tablets left from the previous prescription, so i decided to take one if those for the terrible migraine I was having and within 30 minutes I was feeling relief!! But I was confused on why the white Watson hydrocodone 10/325 tabs weren't helping me at all, even when I was taking 2-3 at a time, but when I took one qualitest 10/325 hydrocodone yellow tab I felt relief. So after trying to figure out why the qualitest tabs work and why the white Watson tabs don't, I decided to google Watsons 10/325 hydrocodone white tabs to see if anyone else was experiencing the same problem I was when it came to the Watsons 10/325 white tabs, and as soon as I hit the search button multiple people had expressed the same exact concern as I had with the Watsons 10/325 tabs, many people said the pills didn't work and many people believed there really isn't much pain medicine in the Watsons hydrocodone, there is also many complaints to the company stating their medication doesn't work! many people stated that once they asked their pharmacy to fill their prescription using another manufacturer and not Watsons, they finally experienced relief from the tabs that came from another manufacturer! Many people will agree and contest that Watsons 10/325 hydrocodone tabs absolutely do NOT work! I know your question was regarding the difference between Watsons hydrocodone 10/325 tabs and oxycodone 5mg immediate release, but I'm assuming that since your doctor switched u over to oxycodone, that you weren't getting any relief from your current prescription of Watsons 10/325 tabs, and the reason your not feeling any relief is because the Watsons 10/325 tabd absolutely do NOT work!! I can almost guarantee u that if u go to CVS pharmacy or any pharmacy that carries QUALITEST Hydrocodone 10/325 yellow tabs you will feel relief from the pain your feeling. The 10/325 hydrocodone tabs that your doctor prescribed are actually really good pain Meds and they do work, unless they're manufactured by Watson, in that case you'll experience absolutely no pain relief!! So when you get your next hydrocodone 10/325 prescription u should definitely find a pharmacy who carries (qualitest) because that manufacturers pain Meds actually work, and you'll see that you may not need oxycodone after all. But if you do, I believe the only differences between hydrocodone 10/325 and oxycodone 5mg is that hydrocodone has Tylenol in it, and I believe from my own experience that hydrocodone 10/325's are stronger then oxycodone 5mg's, also your oxycodone is immediate release tabs so they hit your blood stream faster. I'm basing what I'm saying about the differences between the two off of my own experience with the (qualitest manufacturer) 10/325 tabs and the oxycodone. I believe the qualitest hydrocodone 10/325's work better then the 5mg oxycodone.
But if I had to base it off of Watsons hydrocodone 10/325's I would say that your 5mg oxycodone tabs work 100% better then your 10/325 Watsons. Your oxycodone will offer you pain relief, versus Watsons hydrocodone, with Watsons you will experience no pain relief, you'll go through A LOT more tabs and still be in the same amount of pain! Definitely fill your hydrocodone using the qualitest manufacturer and you'll definitely feel pain relief!!!

Yes!!! I totally agree with what you are saying about the Watson white 10 325 hydrocodone's. You cannot get the yellow 10 325 hydrocodone's hardly anywhere anymore. But, you can however get the yellow Norco 10/325 at HEB!!! I have been prescribed the The Norco, hydrocodone which is offbrand I believe since May 2016 I'm allowed three Norco /Hydrocodone a day. And I get them from H-E-B pharmacy. But I live in Austin Texas area. I do know, however according to what the HEB Pharmacy says, that all H-E-B pharmacies carry the Norco/hydrocodone 10 325 mg. I have tried the white hydrocodone 10 325 from CVS and I've also tried the hydrocodone 10 325 from Walgreens, I cannot remember which one that carries the white 10 325 hydrocodone that looks very similar to the yellow football shaped 10 325 Norco/hydrocodone but however they did not work either.
The pharmacist claimed that they were the exact same thing as the yellow ones but just without the yellow dye because a lot of people were allergic to the yellow dye. She was completely wrong. The only thing that works for me and works well for me is that yellow 10 325 Norco/hydrocodone. I know this post was quite a long time ago May 2011, and it's February now of 2017 but I am just now reading these sites, and figured that I would just try to help as much as I could in case you still hadn't found the yellow hydrocodone/Norco 10 325's. Also, for whatever reason for me, all of the other hydrocodone 10 325 hurt my stomach really bad but the yellow 10 325 Norco/hydrocodone do not hurt my stomach at all. They Theyp they give me great pain relief. And with the yellow hydrocodone 10 325 I only have to take the three I'm allowed a day. With the Watson white 10 325 hydrocodone's I was taking two at a time with no relief whatsoever (4-6 hours apart). With the yellow ones I take one yellow in the morning when my pain is the worst, sometimes an hour later if I'm still in a lot of pain, and I mean pain by tears running down my face, i'll wait an hour and take one more yellow 10 325. That is not every morning, just when I've done so much the day/night before. When I do that are usually go 6 to 8 hours before I have to take another one. Which would be my total of three that I am allowed a day. Now don't get me wrong, my pain is bad enough sometimes… That I wake up in the middle of the night and have to take a pain med and order to get enough relief so I can go back to sleep, that as well is not every night just periodically. I really hope that this somewhat helps you with your pain and finding the hydrocodone/Norco 10 325's that are yellow they work the best!!! Everybody's body and tolerance to pain and pain meds are different. But, it's not that way with just me as far as the yellow Norco go, they also work best for two of my really good friends that are also in chronic pain constantly. As far as I'm concerned the yellow Norco really does take the edge off, Not necessarily takes your pain completely away but makes it to where it's manageable. Good luck, and if you see this comment that I'm leaving, please tell me what you think.

Forget getting a certain manufacturer, can’t get anything anymore. We’ve ALL been reduced to beggars. Such a Shame that people think that the ends justify the means.

Hi man its gona be nice to talk to people who identify w chronic pain, I had all vertibrates in my neck replaced with titanium and my life has not been the same since! It changed my posture and now having chronic pain in my lower back and my legs are cramping, when I went back to my primary doctor and he prescribed 10/325 Norcos 4x a day so I was taking them for about 6 months and my insurance changed so my doctor dropped me saying he didn't accept my new insurance (from SSI benefits) and its taken time to find another primary doctor, at the time right before my doctor dropped me he was getting ready to have MRI done and that was 7 months ago, so... in the mean time I have been going from emergency to clinics and I am getting treated like a dope fiend instead of needing care I am in alot of pain and its constant and frustrating cuz the pain guides my life, and its like I have no life but I could use some support thank you
