I am 25 and as long as I can remember I have had problems with constipation. It has become progressively worse and I am just sick of all the laxatives and fiber. I've tried everything. I feel like this is my last chance. So I have been talk.g the 8 mgs 2xday. No BM yet it has been 3 days now. So how long did u get a response?
How long did it take to work?

I have severe constipation issues compounded by the fear of drinking water. I have had multiple sclerosis for about 15 years. I am taking benefiber but I don’t know how long to wait. Last enema, I had to push. So much blood resulted. I am meeting with a GI doctor in two weeks but I don’t know what to do anymore.
I'm not quite sure of your question. What are you taking that's 8mg. 2 times a day for a bowel movement?
The two above responses were right about hydration. Nothing and I mean nothing works well unless you drink a good amount of water and juices! Fiber must have water to work its best. You should shoot for 64 oz a day. Water is really best because your body doesnt have to process it to use it but juices work well too. A caution that a lot of people dont know-black tea (so iced tea) and coffee do not count as fluid replacement because they cause more fluid to be lost than they replace so if you drink iced tea all day you could still be dehydrated! If you dont like the taste of water you can add Chrystal Light or lemon or lime slices to flavor. Increase you intake of fruits (with the skins for things that the skin is edible of course!), veggies and whole grains. Try bran-bran cereal, bran muffins, raisin bran etc. Benefiber is great because you can add it to anything and it doesnt change the taste or thicken fluids.
I have even added it to water and couldnt tell it was there! I have always had trouble with constipation too. My mom said I did even as an infant. Now I take pain meds which really compound the problem. As long as I drink plenty of water and eat the fruits, veggies and whole grains I rarely have to take a laxative! Oh-popcorn works great as a fiber too!
I agree that you have to increase H2O (especially when taking fiber supplements) and fruits (not bananas, which can cause constipation). You could also try some warmed prune juice - pop it in the microwave. Take with Milk of Magnesia.
If that does not work, go to the health store or Vitacost. com and get some colon cleanse or Super Cleanse product and you will be sure to have a bowel movement every day (as long as you take it), but STAY HYDRATED!!! Water only!!!
Smart girl!!! Water is definitely best!
Is the medication you are taking twice a day at 8 mgs by any chance suboxone or subutex. Those come in 8 mg doses and definitely can cause MAJOR constipation. You may have to resort to a suppository for now, you can also really up your water intake and increase pulpy fruit and walk. I had this problem on suboxone at less of a dose than this, I had to occasionally use suppositories and phillips milk of magnesia tabs. A guy here told others to increase water, and to walk, and it did work. Also as you taper down the subs, this will lessen in severity. I know the water, walking, and fruit sounds pretty crazy, but it does work.
