What will happen if I continue to smoke while taking Zupion SR - bupropion?

Nothing. It made me cut back a little. I’ve smoked for 20 years & I smoke about a pack a day. Was on Wellbutrin for years & went to about a half a pack a day. Even managed to quick for about a week, then started back. But once I got off the Wellbutrin I was back to a pack a day. I did quit drinking cold turkey while I was on it though, which it is known to help with as well.

To answer your question, yes, you can continue to smoke cigarettes while taking bupropion SR (Zupion SR). I took wellbutrin SR to quit smoking. I think the SR version is more effective than the wellbutrin XL version for smoking cessation. I have read numerous accounts of successfully quitting smoking with this particular medication. But the name brand Zyban (another form of wellbutrin) is prescribed specifically for smoking, and Chantix is also. Unfortunately, when I took Chantix, I quit smoking, but later on, after I quit smoking, and quit taking it, Chantix threw me into a depression spiral! Please --- Google these medications and educate yourself before you take these medications, so you won't be blindsided when you have any adverse side effects to contend with!!

Hello. I'm new to the boards here. I have been taking Wellbutrin XL 150mg for a number of years to help with my depression, and, I am also a smoker. It has not helped me to quit smoking at all, if anything, I seem to smoke more lol. I will say it does seem to help with the depression, along with my other meds, Seroquel, Klonopin and Trazodone which I take at night to help me sleep. Is
anyone else still smoking while being on Wellbutrin (Bupropion)?

Your not doing to bad with the amount you smoke but really the Bupropion well still work as a antianxiety,antidepressant, This drug was on the market several years before the found that a side effect of the drug was people did not have the urge to smoke that is why it is used as a stop smoking drug to help people that want to stop you well have no problem smoking with this drug.

I've been using E-cigs for over 10 mos. No cigs since. You can get over 200 flavors, including of course tobacco. I like blueberry and blackberry, but I have tobacco, too. Sometimes I mix the flavors together for fun.
Yes, you'll still get the same affect while taking zupion sr(bupropion. I pray this works for you. It's very important. We all appreciate the question and answers.

Hi, as the guys have said, smoking while taking bupropion won't effect the antidepressant qualities. But, if you have been considering quitting smoking, this is the optimal time! I don't know where you live, but in the UK, we have a month called 'Stoptober' (October), & they send you free information packs to help you quit. However, if you still like a puff (as i do), you can put our mind at rest that your medication will work as is intended

Yes all that will happen is that you'll continue to experience the health effects of smoking. For me, bupropion was very effective for quitting. In less than a week it was essentially impossible to continue smoking. It became completely unsatisfying and distasteful. Bupropion also decreased my cravings to the point where it was effortless to stop.

Hi, bilal! Smoking won't affect the antidepressant effects of bupropion ~ but don't be surprised if you start wanting a ciggie less often! ;-)
