I have fibromyalgia and several hernia repairs therefore a lot of belly pain not to mention generalized pain. My doc wont give me tramadol because of the antidepressants I'm on. Does anyone know of any other pain medication besides over the counter that will help my severe pain? I can't take ibuprofen due to belly upset. Please let me know of a pain medication or a antidepressant that is safe to take with tramadol. Thank you!
Is there a good non narcotic pain med besides tramadol?

It sounds like your belly pain and Fibromyalgia are pretty diabilitating. My initial response; not knowing your reason for taking them, would be to slowly taper off the antidepressants so you can take the tramadol. The research l have done suggests that Zoloft, taken at a different time of the day, is the safest antidepressant to take w Tramadol. I have days where l have horrible Fibro. On those days I take Oxycodone 20mgs. Turmeric ( the liquid w black pepper), l take daily and has significantly lessened the “bad” days of my Fibromyalgia
I was on elavil and lyrica with tramadol but became allergic to the tramadol. I got to where I had difficulty breathing and couldn’t stay awake. I was taken off of it and I have done ok without it. I was put on dilaudid recently with good relief.
Neurontin and Lyrica both have much success in the treatment of nerve pain. I have found them to be immensely helpful myself. I also have ulcers. Combining these with tylenol, and adding some topical solutions, such as Lidocaine which comes in gel or patches and numbs, is very helpful.
Just so you feel comfortable I have a very strong medical background as a combat medic and a board-certified physicians assistant.
I have also used the medications for my own fibromyalgia and it really works.
And to the best of my knowledge they work well with most other medication.
The human brain can't read the adverse effects labels by itself so I would start out with the capsules then move to the patches.
Quite frankly I did the opposite and had no problems whatsoever.
Try 40mg hemp oil patches from Mary's medicinals on the Internet. They work great, are
$28 each and they last for about 48 to 52 hours.
Hande open patches with care because thet can burn your eyes like lemon or orange juice.
1000 mg capsules are also worth buying and they're less expensive.
I have not tried the actual hemp oil which you place a few drops under your tongue but I've heard nothing but good things about it.
Well my friend I wish you luck and I hope and pray that you are on the mend very soon.
I'm all in favor of CBD oil as well as MM. I want the medical profession to start testing these drugs so those who need them will know how much to take. Right now everyone has to guess. Eventually this will happen, but I want it to happen before the year 2100.
You are in a tough spot, I feel for you. I do not know what antidepressants you are on but to me Cymbalta is known to have pain relieving ability for many patients. However, watch your blood pressure regularly on Cymbalta in case it rises to an unacceptable level. Nortyptaline(sp?) is a tricyclic antidepressant from the late 1960's that can also be used off label to treat pain. The potential issue with it can be a bad skin rash or/and a case of hyperthermia ( the heating of the body, often causing sweating, trouble sleeping). It is very good to help cease tobacco use if you smoke. Tramadol is a synthetic opioid and it is not as strong with pain as hydrocodone, but it is Schedule 4 so many pharmacies will claim that do not have it if you are not known personally to them. They are afraid they will be punished by regulators for filling even legit scripts, this is due to the over 33k overdose deaths per annum now.
I take oyxcodone twice a day but CVS and others will not fill my five week script. Rite Aid will because they know me not to be an abuser. Try and see if you can get 10mg tablets of oxycodone and if you take it twice a day, no more, it should be safe with most antidepressants. The main concern would be higher doses and the respiratory affects.
Hi
Was on Tramado about 1 1/2 was weened off never had any trouble,
as as Fentanyl went from 75mg to 12.5 in 6 weeks no problem.
On 5 pain meds 2 pills for sleeping, spinal cord stimulator ( no help )
Have PHN for 3 years
for Becky1961, I've had restless leg syndrome (RLS) for decades. I am currently taking 1mg of Mirapex 1-3 times a day. It is my miracle drug. Believe me if I go to bed without it, I know it and will get up to take it. I also have to take 1-2 pills around 2:00 pm because between 3-5 pm my legs are dancing on their own. I have found this to be the best med for my RLS. Good luck.
I noticed you said you have Fibromyalgia... you really need to look into trying Savella. It's made specifically for Fibromyalgia pain.
I don't have Fibromyalgia, but when I asked my Dr. if there was anything out there that could help me with the body pain I just felt ALL OVER, he immediately had me try Savella, and it took away an enormous amount of my pain, to where I was no longer bedridden.
Best of luck!
Meggie :)
I have restless leg syndrome and I took tramadol but it is a narcotic so my dr put me on ropinirole and it doesn't work I am Still up all night does anyone know what is great for my legs
Typically, Mirapex. But you have to be watchful of your gambling/spending behaviors, as there is a chance, with certain people, that Mirapex can "bring out" these behaviors in some patients. If that happens, the medication needs to be discontinued. It is a fantastic RLS medication, though. It completely stopped my RLS.
Restless leg syndrome or cramps can indicate deficiencies in calcium, magnesium, and vitamin E. Natural vitamin E (d-alpha tocopherol) is much better than cheap synthetic E (dl-alpha tocopherol).
I myself have chronic pain do to crohns. You can try clonidine it's used for cancer pain.
I use Clonidine but for hypertension, its the best medication I take for high blood pressure, I take three medications for my hypertension. It works within an hour, and works really well. Was not aware its also used for pain, is this correct?
That's cool with clonidine but make sure you monitor the blood pressure. It is really good at bringing down high blood pressure but if bp is caused by pain and pain is relieved it can drop bp. Very glad you found relief though and it worked for you.
I think you might be talking about Clonopin vs Clonodine. One is pain/anxiety (Clonopin) and other is for blood pressure (Clonodine).
I don't know where you live, CountryLover, but medical cannabis is very helpful for fibro pain. There are different products that you can try. I'm using the CBD tincture as well as some smoking. I still do take tylenol and ibuprofen, but CBD is many forms is very helpful.

Hopefully you find this helpful.
I noticed you put prenatal plus on your list. If you are pregnant, then I recommend you read up on trazodone and Zoloft because you shouldn't take them. My niece was in trazodone during her pregnancy and her baby was born with her heart on the outside of her chest. They fixed it and she lived but they contributed it to the trazodone she was taking. It was her therapist that prescribed the medicine to her, not her OB/GYN. The therapist didn't educate herself to know not to prescribe it to her. LOOK IT UP!!!
I hope you have a gatekepper to check all your meds. Several are repetitive.
I use CBD (Cannabidiol) & CBN (Cannabinol) for my Fibromyalgia. I no longer have my Fibro symptoms or pain. I am off antidepressants. I used to feel like I had the flu when I woke up, no more, that is gone. I used to have stabbing pains, no more, those are gone. If I have breakthrough pain with my arthritis, I use a CBD:THC patch or spray.
I don't know where you live, but living in Colorado & having access to medical marijuana has saved my life.
We need the laws changed before we get a new president. THC and HIGH LEVELS OF CBD VAPORIZED OR SWALLOWED can change do many lives. The drug industry is fighting to keep marijuana illegal because it works and would replace many drugs.
I didn't know there is a THC patch. Amazing. Does it effect the mind and cause a buzz or just pain?
I live in CA where medical marijuana is legal. there is an edible "candy" that has no psychodelic effects, it's for pain only. You may feel a little relaxed, but not "stoned
I smoked Pot every night for 35 yrs. Ok, due to my job I missed a few nights but they were few. I'm now off it 14 yrs. It is addictive, not like opiates or Coke but you can't sleep without it and that's why you keep smoking it. I was seriously injured several times while I was hooked on Pot and it does not kill pain. Think about this, how can it? Pot amplifies whatever you feel. Sex is better, music is better, everything you experience is amplified including pain. A long time smoker such as I was learned to use the Pot effect to ignore the pain. But I looked forward to my Percocet, Vicodin, or whatever the doc gave me.
In spite of this I am in favor of legalization especially Medical Marijuana because CBD weed stops seizures on many people who don't respond to any other treatments. I have a friend of 50 yrs and certain Pot stopped her seizures. Of course only certain weed did it because CBD doesn't cause a high but it was an accident when weed was high in CBD. But now that we know this Pot can be grown to be high in CBD and low in THC. Therefore I support legalization.
In my state, you can only get medical marijuana for terminal cancer and glaucoma. However, the CBD vaporizing liquid was legal and available at local tobacco and vapor shops. I spent nearly $100 purchasing the largest bottle and an electronic vapor device because I am so sick of being in pain. I have fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, generative disc disease, and diabetic neuropathy. I used to smoke marijuana for the pain relief whenever I could get it, but it is highly illegal so I couldn't get it as often as I needed it. The CBD liquid was a godsend! No buzzed feeling (I hate that), no drowsiness, no dizziness, no nausea, and no pain!!! I would vape a little every morning before even getting out of bed for my coffee and then as I needed it during the day, maybe 3 more times per day. I felt so alive for the first time in years, but then the lawmakers in Alabama declared CBD and related products illegal. Guess who's back to being in severe pain? Stupid idiots take the stuff that actually works away from those of us who really need it!
I just started using fine CBD oil. And I don’t feel much differently. I am currently having withdrawals from cymbalta and started the CBD about 3 weeks ago. I’m sure it takes a while to build up in your system. But I am a physical and emotional wreck right now. Any suggestions?
I use a lot of vitamins and herbs plus the lidoderm patch on specific areas of pain i was given tramadol but bc it sedates me im not able to take it and lyrica and gabapentin i was told are narcotic so i dont want to take those im in school to be a substance abuse counselor so I dont want to feel like a hypocrit trying to teach ppl how bad drugs are bing on them myself I still suffer a bunch but do surppliment with ibuprofen and tylenol rotation not perfect by far but hopefuly fda will make something that helps soon
Gabapentin is NOT a narcotic, it was originally created to treat epilepsy, but it now being used for neuropathic pain and for restless leg syndrome.
Lyrica is also NOT a narcotic, it is used for neuropathic pain and an anticonvulsant.
Why is it so hard to get off of Lyrica?
Lyrica is a schedule 5 controlled substance.
Any medication that works on receptors in your brain is hard to get off of as your brain is used to it and so is your body. You have to gradually get off of it if you doctor says it's ok.
A scheduled med does not equal a narcotic med. There are many non narcotic scheduled meds.
First of all Lyrics and Gabapentin are NOT narcotics. Just thought I'd let you know since I'm on Lidoderm patches as well, Gabapentin and Oxycodone. Oxycodone is the only narcotic here.
The problem with Lyrica is that it is use with alcohol for the high affect. They open it and mix it. Now in Dayton, Ohio you need a paper prescription.
Gabapentin puts me to sleep. I can take 100 mg and can't wake up and function for 2 days
