I went to my pharmacist who worked out the equivelancy of my Klor-Con prescription (size of horse pill, which due to scar tissue development after bariatric surgery, could not get down, even after trying halting then quartering the tablet. ) I switched to an over the counter Potassium Gluconate with much smaller pills. After doing it for awhile, my Dr did a screening to check levels. The over the counter switch was every bit as productive as taking the Klor-Con.
There are generics available, potassium chloride. You can't substitute the vit because its not the same units of measurement and vitamins aren't controlled as tightly as prescription meds and can vary in amounts. Potassium is too important to the body to not be sure what you're taking.
