I occasionally take .5mg of Teva clonazepam for nerve pain. I find there is quite a lot of variation in the effectiveness of the tablets -- some work 100% well and some only 50-70%. I was wondering if this is due to it being a generic. Any thoughts?
Does generic clonazepam (Teva) work as well as brand Klonopin?

Mylan is the Best manufacturer so far. I have never tried the brand Klonopin, but I can tell you that I have used Teva a few times (in 2011) and and it does not do anything to me, its like a sugar pill. I also recently got another Teva refill (2015) and still does nothing. So I ask my doctor to please write in the clonazepam prescription to be filled by Mylan manufacturers.
im been on Clonazepam for 7 years take 2mg twice ed and teva is by far the best generic i had mylan watson activis stay away from these and the e ones. Teva are very close to the roche original Klonipin the clostest ive had has i was on the brand name ones for a year then tried teva and wow i was impressed. teva is the only generic ill accept mylans are alright watson ok the E ones are prolly equal to the mylans but from takind all i can say hands down teva makes the best Klonipin and are one of the best pharmacy companies in the usa i try to get all teva meds, if possible i made a mistake and went to riteaid cause i moved and got the R activis 2mg ones and wow i seriously have to take 4mg to equal not even 2mg of the tevas. You can research around but they still make roche cut out brand name klonipins i paid 70usd for them and only pay 5 usd for the teva and cheaper ones like activis i paid only 1 dollar. and 3 dollars for the mylans watsons and e ones.
I would highly suggest the teva as i have friends on clonazepam and all seem to like teva the best sandoz used to make good ones too but now got bought out my activis and qualitest makes them two but there poor quality as well imo if i couldnt get teva id get the e ones or mylans. If i had t o get generics but i rather pay 70usd for roches they go that route i find the tevas as potent as the brand name roches
actually generic only have to be 80 percent of the oringinal formula so it can vary 20 percent. But they dont check every batch so you could get a roch 2mg kpin then get a generic and it may only be 1.6mg or less. thats why some are better then others. Most prefer Roche which are the best cause you know your getting 2mg everytime but i found teva to be very close or as potent then any other clonazepam everyone is different why tev is only carried at cvs and higher end drug store cause its more expension then say the mylan or watson and activis and qualitest are by far the cheapest as i can get them both for only 1 dollar. What ever works for you but from mine experiene with severe anxiety not as are the same so i stick to what works are thats teva.
Sandoz used to make a great generic too as good as teva to bad now they sold out to activis which makes a very hard pill like the mylan and watson tevas got alot btetter imo with there new patent now the 2mg are white say teva on them and 834 on the other side i used there tramadol as well and was my favorite imo all teva meds ive had have been great quality mylan makes decent products i take there synthoid and its the best and was on xanx before and they make a good xanax but greenstone xanax are the best as there made by prizer. IMO mylan makes good meds was on a bunch of anxity meds til ifound klonipin worked theb est but mylann makes a great 2mg lorazepam
I've been rxing it for 5+ years and taking it 2mg prn for about 3 years and have had everything but Mylan; because mylan makes terrible meds. I've had nothing but complaints about that company. Sandoz has always worked fine then actavis (which I guess sold out?) but TEVA I recently got and is just like Greenstone is to Pfizer, they contain 100% 2mgs of clonazepam in them.
I whole heartedly agree with this; Mylan being best. I've been on clonazapam for 10 years for anxiety and sleep - low dose .25 to .5 mg - and just recently refilled script and manufacturer changed to Teva b/c Mylan is back ordered over a month and no one has it. By day 3 of taking Teva, I was having severe withdrawal symptoms which have worsened and need to increase dosage. One nearby pharmacy has one other manufacturer (something "quest") but I've not tried. I am waiting for brand name Klonopin to arrive Monday to switch. I'm desperately hoping this will make me feel better and back to normal quickly.
Some will say yes, others will say no.
The brand Klonopin isn't available and won't be until early October. The last time I took a generic (Mylan?), I had a terrible headache, almost a mini-stroke. Not sure what to do between now and October.
Genentech/Roche subsidiary is finally distributing name brand Klonopin again as of October 22nd. I received a phone call from them in later October to inform me. Appearance is the same, works as well as always in my opinion. I had to use a compounded sublingual version, cost $140 although my insurance covered it for 3 months for my $5 co pay. Shorter acting than name brand Klonopin, but it worked fine as a short term medication until then began production again.
To my knowledge, Klonopin is not used for nerve pain which I do have (neuropathy and damaged nerves in the spine from herniated disks and RA). It has never helped me for that ailment, I am on Klonopin for 25 years. You might want to look into Lyrica or Neurontin with your physician.
I am on gabapentin, clonezapam, and tramadol for a combination of neuropathy and Parkinsonism (RLS and tremor)
From my experience with generics; Mylan is by far the worse. It was like taking Tylenol. Didn't help with anxiety, seizures or anything else.
TEVA brand has been my favorite, although I've not actually tried brand name KLONOPIN.
Mylan works well for me. We all have such different systems!
Mylan in general is an inferior generic manufacturer. I try to stay away from Mylan for ANY med, especially their Klonopin. I also refuse to take the Teva generic. Teva which is headquartered in Israel is generally a very good generic company, however their Klonopin suck. There is no authorized generic (generic made by the same manufacturer that makes the brand name). So I stick with either Actavis (they have an ‘R’ imprint) OR Qualitest (‘V’ imprint). Both of these work GREAT for me. Never had any issues.
I have not found any difference with the generics, although they can be a little less effective. I think that you should try to take them as soon as the nerve pain starts. When pain gets a head start, then it can become extremely difficulty to treat it. Wish you the best with your pain relief.
I've been taking Klonopin since 1989 for migraine prevention and have just recently been given a generic batch from activis/// I am actually on the we because it's so impotent-- one a day 1mg is usually good but two is doing nothing . At the sane time I'm researching corruption at Various genetic labs-like Ranbaxy in India ~~ and the whole thing is quite shocking- useless or contaminated pills, some w/ground glass in them. I ashamed the media isn't doing more on this. So, so far so bad. I'm going yo endeavor to get brand name
That's very disturbing to hear. Yes, you are right that the media should be doing more to publicize this.
I take clonazepam for anxiety, I guess I have never had any issues with them. Sometimes the severity of the issue can make a difference to though. You say you take it for nerve pain, maybe it depends on how bad you are letting it get before you take the pill. Either way i would talk to your doctor. If it is that the pills are not made consistent then you need to decide how well they do work so you know if you might want to take a different route in controlling it, or if it is the severity of pain making the difference
I just got my meds yesterday and they didnt have Teva only Actavis . I AM NOT FEELING ANYTHING IS IT JUST ME please HELP !!! I've been taking this med for long time for my major anxiety issue. Even since I can recall my parents lock me in a closet and used to abuse me physically to a point I would bleed sometime. Of course at that time i was very young and they changed over the years. But ever since college that's when everything fell apart I keep forgetting thing hard to remember or think.. and believe or not kept getting anxiety attacks every few hrs.. so they had to put me on this medication. Any thoughts weather Actavis works???
I have taken K for over 20 years and my pharmacy just switched generic brands from one to Accavis and it's horrible! After 1 month on the new generic I am feeling worse than I have in a long long time!
Hi! Been there done that And it’s not just you! I really believe the Activis compared to Teva is horrible, and it’s less (A Lot Less) Effective-it’s about a mg off =lower strength. If you can, ask for “Mylan”, I find these are pretty good! Helpful at least!! Anyway, if you cannot get Mylan manufacturer then ask your Dr. for a stronger dose= And make it crystal clear why
I had the exact same reaction! I believe it’s like the Activis is 1 mg lower than Teva. Talk to your Dr about it, go up on your dosing and see if it helps you. If Dr not willing-fire them and find another !!
Its odd. I was on the TEVA for years and it worked great for me, not too strong, just enough to get me some good sleep. Now they gave me the actavis and it feels TOO STRONG! I also woke up two nights in a row beet red from head to toe with my heart pounding. Needless to say I'm trying to come off of it
Update: after my body got used to the actavis brand it turns out the heart palpitations were in fact withdrawal symptoms. I wound up in the hospital and still have yet to find a brand that works. Going to try teva wafers
TEVA wafers gave me an allergic reaction but mentally I feel like I was taking the TEVA pills. Sadly they did not help me sleep like the TEVA pills did though. This may be an option for some people who are less sensitive to fillers than I am.
I've been through... 5 generics now? I'm going to try some name brand and if that helps I'm going to try and get an insurance name brand exception
They say generics can vary 10% either way, I've found this to be true. You can do some research on the web and fin out who's manufacturing it as a generic, then request that from your pharmacy, but give them time to order it, usually the smaller shops will more readily accommodate. Process of elimination and you'll hit a good one in no time, as most are just fine, you may have hit a lemon with the ones you have now. Hope this helps.
