I'm really confused :( Iv gotten differing diagnoses & prescriptions since I was 15 for my stomach problems. ie; Heartburn, IBS, gastric reflux? I have constipation, pretty sure it's from the meds I take. My bowels dont move unless I take a laxative. I put myself on a bland diet avoiding spicy foods citrus fruits sugar caffeine alcohol not eating anything heavy after 7pm. I take Omeprazole, it works. Had an endoscopy recently, found a small errosion on esophagus (Barretts Syndrome) And once in a blue moon after a meal I start to burp a terrible smell like rotten eggs. Followed by nausea & vomiting then diarrhea.
Gastrointestinal Disorders - Does anyone burp a rotten egg smell or Sulfur..& what causes it?

The rotten egg smell is caused by gas (hydrogen sulphide) released in the breakdown of sulfur containing proteins. Red meat, poultry, certain fruit & veges, grains and nuts and dairy products all contain sulfur proteins.
Thanks Suzanne66 I'd like to know where you found that out because I've asked my gastroenterologist & other Doctor's & they dont have an answer. Now let me ask you WHY this happens & why only occassionally?
Yes Pauline..I am 52 now and the first time this happened to me I was 12. I never understood it myself but I get the exact same symptoms too, as you. Recently, my gastro doc. said it is from my IBS and strictly stress related. I agree somewhat, but when it happened to me when I was 19 and in excrutiating pain... they put me in the hospital running test after test and finally said it was gastroenteritis along with sand in my gallbladder, I did have it taken out 10 years later full of large gallstones. Should have done it several years before I did though. I find when it happens to me, is to go on a bland diet (which is all I really want anyway) and take it from there as you start to feel better. Red gravy, peanuts and peanut butter doesn't seem to agree with me very much at all. So... test yourself, I'm sure you know what agrees with your stomach and bowels more than anyone. Different doctors will blame different things on this to some extent.
Find out what works best for you. I take a lot of extra-strength gas pills (simithicone) my RX's for Gerd,
Klonopin for anxiety and Bentyl for the stomach/bowel spasms. Good luck to ya and hope you feel better soon!!!
Dear Abigayle thank you so much for that information. Now I have a starting point. Imagine all these years & no one doctor has diagnosed my condition. Our symptoms are similiar. What do you take for it? I do have acid reflux, I take Omeprazole for that. I'm thinking that I'd like to try something natural rather than chemicals..Lol I'm thinking of doctors as Mad Scientist's..
