I haven’t been on it very long and I’m having not only fluid retention but weight gain and carbohydrate craving that is completely crazy. I’ve gained 4 pounds in a month and have not change my eating habits at all. I need the medication so badly I’m having to figure out what to do .It’s discouraging when you give up one thing ( more nerve pain) and gain another - literally.
300mg has made my legs and hands swell. Gabapentin does help with the pain but, I don’t like the swelling. It also makes me drowsy but I sleep good. The drug has pros and cons about it.
I have been on it for about 8.5 years with no fluid retention or other side effects.
Thanks for your response but Im not 100% convinced that is true. I read somewhere thats fluid retention may be side effects of gabapetin. Since Dx put on ir is that notice my weigh gain
I've been on this for at least a decade. My weight has increased each year. And looking back I can pinpoint when it happened (every time they increased dosage). I just got weaned off it and in 7 days have lost 15 pounds. It was causing me to retain fluid. Since discontinuing this med I have felt so much better. I no longer have "allergies", IBS, and my pain level has decreased. I know longer sweat like crazy and now enjoy sex with my husband. I did go through serious withdrawal and about a week of insomnia and major panic attacks.
How much were you on and how did you taper off?
