Hi.. I'm on 100mg three times a day. I've been having a nightmare within a nightmare. It starts out with I near someone in my house while I'm lying in bed. Then I realize I'm dreaming & stuck in bed voices all around me. Actually children voices. For the first time in my nightmare I grabbed a leg of whoever in my dream who's plotting to hurt me. I start screaming HELP HELP over & over again. Trying to shake myself awake. Unfortunately my head ended up face first in my pillow & was suffocating in my dream. Though when I woke up. I was face planted in my pillow. Out of breath like ive never been previously. Pretty much same events in all the nightmares I've had in the last few weeks. The other night I woke up due to my head smashing into my head board. I really need medical attention or I need to ween my selt off this medication.
I take 900mg a day and 120 mg of duloxetine and since 2021 I have strange vivid dreams every night. Apparently after researching it I found out that we all dream but our brain cleans up the memory and we wake up without remembering ,and with this medication it seems that that process is not done hence why we remember.
I take 600mg (should be taking 900mg). My dreams are SO Vivid! They aren't necessarily bad though. I have PTSD and suffered from horrible nightmares for years so I am surprised my dreams aren't bad. Although they are weird and obviously going from thoughts of my subconscious, they aren't scary. Last night I had a kitten in my dream! I have learned over time how to change the direction of my dreams so I am sure that is helping. But yes, very vivid dreams
OH MY GOSH!!! finally someone who understands!! This happens to me as well, and it happens sometimes even when I am not taking gabapentin. I wake up, but i am just in another dream. And I have a hard time distinguishing wether or not im actually awake or still in a dream. I'll usually have to force myself to wake up. It's kind of scary.
Exactly what I'm experiencing on gabapentin. Truly horrible dreams within a dream
I’m so happy someone else is having the same issues . I started on gabapentin last Friday 100mg before bed. First night I had a migraine so bad I couldn’t even sleep and since then I’m having such vivid nightmares I can’t tell when I’m awake or sleeping. I’ll think I’m awake be looking at my room but it’s spinning and my eye site is blurry. Then when I officially wake up everything is normal I absolutely hate this medication. First time I took it I was started on 300mg at night I had such bad migraines and extremely bad anxiety. I’m just going to let my doctor know this medication is not for me.
I just started 100 mg last night before bed for Burning Mouth Syndrome. Horrible sleep and dreams. Waking up with a headache too. I'm very drowsy today. Only one dosage and I'm hesitant to even take another tonight. Did you continue with this medication and if so, did the dreams stop?
Hi, linds!
It's a very common side effect and ironically gabapentin is often prescribed for insomnia and dream abnormalities.
Side effects as a rule generally resolve within days to a week or so for most people.
thank you, I appreciate your feedback. Maybe I'll give it a few more days; especially where I need help with sleeping too.
I have awful bad dreams since I have been taking Gabapentin. I thought maybe I was just making this up and decided to google and check it out. Glad to know that other people are experiencing what I am. My husband literally has to wake me up, because I am moaning, groaning and literally crying out in my sleep. I also totally get so immersed in my dreams, I don't know if I'm dreaming or if this is actually happening to me and then I start trying to wake myself up, so I can quit dreaming these awful dreams!! So glad to know others are having this problem and not just my imagination of what I'm dreaming.
Yes! I totally agree. I am only on 100mg three times a day, but my dreams have been so wild and vivid! Luckily for me, my dreams have not been scary or bad. A couple have even been quite fun adventures that I was bummed I wake up from. I only had one dream that was unpleasant and played on a couple of my deep insecurities on certain things. But overall I would say the thing that I notice most is that the dreams are so vivid with so many details. I notice that others have pointed this out as well...
Yep same here, I actually just woke up from a dream that had been repeating all night. I am on 600mg three times a day for back pain. My dreams have always been very vivid and I've been a lucid dreamer since a was 6 years old but this drug makes me have very stressful dreams. I can wake up and fall right back into it, I do have a lot going on in my life right now but damn was that intense, I also exhausted. Im glad it's not just me though.
I take a small dose of 200 mg at night and 100 mg in the morning for neuropathy. I’ve been having weird dreams which sometimes include vivid smells. This morning at 4:30 I smelled eggs frying and my husband, who I saw on the stairs, said there are scrambled eggs if you want some. I woke up and went downstairs but nobody was up yet. I’ve had odd dreams like this several times since starting this medicine.
I have been taking gabapentin the past few days and have in the past for my Trigeminal Nueralgia. The dreams are so vivid and they all seem to depict my worst nightmare in a different form each time. When I wake from the dream I’m typically sweating and my heart is racing and I’m terrified !!!
I have been having very vivid dreams since day one taking Gabapentin. However, like all the responses of have read my
dreams are the opposite. They are very clear, vivid and sometimes funny dreams. Last night my husband woke me up from a dream so funny that I couldn't stop laughing and I laughed so hard it got him started laughing. I have been enjoying the dreams.
My experiences are similar. I just started 3 days ago on 100 mg at bedtime for Periodic Limb Movement Disorder. Last night, I dreamed about killing everyone in the world and then saving them again. I am like a zombie during the day. No way I can take this any longer in hopes the dreams will go away. It's worse than the PLMD.
I have been on Gabapentin, 800 mg two times daily for many years. Use-MS and fibromyalgia pain. Recently I was prescribed 1200 mg twice daily. The bizarre, seemingly real dreams, which have started with new dose, are so disturbing, I wake up terrorized and exhausted. My heart races. Now my pain and stiffness often increased. Believe because I tense up while dreaming and causes my symptoms to intensify. Will be decreasing my dosage after conferring with my neurologist. Thank you for sharing and helping me (hopefully) find a solution to this side effect
I have dreams too. But I find I can control them to a point. I fall asleep to an audio book of the Book of Psalms and have peaceful dreams. I also pray for other people before I get in bed. That helps the peaceful mood too and it shows in my dreams. I also dream when I'm half asleep. I was staring at my pillow this morning when a dream came out of it and started playing in front of me. I was awake. It was a nice dream but the bad part about it is I thought it was cool and I liked it. That kind of reaction should have bothered me. I only went from 100 to 200 mg. It takes the pain away but puts me in another world
