I'm supposed to start this, 100mg seems impossible to get hold of, 50s are short supply and two pharmacies said that it's been discontinued. However, other pharmacies haven't, the bnf hasn't, and idk where else to look.
Has fluvoxamine been discontinued, or is it just a shortage in the UK?

I managed to get 100mg Faverin (fluvoxamine) tablets today. I live in Nottinghamshire. Apparently, only 100mg tablets are available at the moment, but 50mg tablets should be available somewhere around/after 6th of October 2023. It's been a complete nightmare, I have even been in touch with the supplier of the drug Viatris, and tried to complain everywhere I could. Unfortunately, pharmacies keep saying that they can't order the drug, they are probably not very well informed!
Even I am unable to find this drug. I’ve called many pharmacies in Aberdeen but none of them have it. I’ve been taking it for years and it works very well for ocd. I can’t imagine my life without this drug. There is no online information about the shortage of this drug. I hope the authorities try to resolve this on a war footing as it may affect so many peoples lives negatively.I don’t think it’s banned in the Uk. I hope someone provides us information on when there would be a regular supply of this drug.
Hi
Ive been on this for 8 years and over the last 2 months had no supply.
As a result, I tapered off from 300mg to 50mg. Then started fluoxetine
Main diagnosis ocd
Its a shame, this was the one medication which really helped me. It works to help produce melatonin as well, so melatonin and ocd may be worth a search
I'm on this drug and have been for years for OCD. It's very good and better than any others I tried. I no longer have symptoms of OCD. Last few months have had bad supply problems. I gather the stockists for pharmacies have 50mg tablets now in the UK. Also Boots have a gizmo on their website that allows you to check stock in individual stores. Good luck.
Hi, Ac!
Although banned in the U.S. I couldn't find anything saying it had been discontinued in the U.K.
Apparently, there is a great shortage of many different medications.
Since it's a generic you might be able to find it if you have small "Mom & Pop" pharmacies (chemists). They fill less prescriptions so they may still have a supply on hand.
Otherwise, you may need to contact your health care provider and explain your situation. For the most part it's been used primarily for OCD so if that's you there are several other options.
Best regards and good luck in your search.

P.S. Is there anyone here online who lives in the U.K. and can you help?
Thanks so much. I've seen that fluvoxamine was banned for a short time, and the brand Luvox is discontinued in the US, but I didn't think it had been banned again. It is for OCD.
I've tried fluoxetine, mirtazapine, vortioxetine, duloxetine. Family allergies to citalopram and sertraline.
I managed to get a small amount of 50mg yesterday, but it seems there is no public-facing site that shows the state of shortages or discontinuation.
I managed to get Faverin (owned by Mylan/Viatris), but I think generics are pretty much the same.
Yes, Luvox and Faverin are both fluvoxamine. If it becomes unavailable you might want to research Paxil (paroxetine). It's one of only a couple of antidepressant/anxiolytics that's FDA approved to treat OCD in the U.S. Find out if and it's generic equivalent are approved by what I think you call the MHRA?
