I am using a generic .4 mg capsule of Flomax (tamsulosin) for urine flow problems and have been having headaches from the drug that is somewhat bothersome. To address this problem, I have been opening the capsule by pulling it apart(it is easy to do) and emptying half of the capsule's content. I then push the capsule back together and swallow the capsule. I find the drug works about as well with only half of the capsule's content and my headaches are reduced 70%-80% to the point where it is not that big of a deal. I see my urologist tomorrow and plan to let him know. Some pharmacists may say this is not an accurate way to take a consistent amount of the drug, but it is close enough and allows me to get the benefits without the annoying headaches.
@Sabrina1234 Flomax is NOT time released or would say so on the label. I've asked all 3 urologist I've seen this same question as well as my pharmacist (the mgr not a cashier), and the manufacturer of the drug it self. ALL say it is not time released or extended release. Other countries sell .2 mg to help wean off of it,, but here in the good ole US... no. However as someone noted above I did find a compounding pharmacy that will make .2mg and .1 here locally where I live . yea!!! That is he way to go
I had this same question. Flomax (tamsulosin) was causing me constant extreme anxiety and panic attacks, could not tolerate it. Pharmacist says US distributors only carry 0.4 mg capsules. I found a NorthWestPharmacy in Canada that sells 0.2 mg capsules but don't know if they are time-released or not. About $80 with shipping for 100. Haven't been able to find tablets. Anyone tried 1 mg Doxazosin for BPH or urinary flow issues? I'm already on BP meds, worried about side effects from alpha blockers after my experience with tamsulosin.
You also can buy from online pharmacies at reasonable cost and manufactured by Dr. REDDY, major generic manufacturer with fine reputation. 0.4 mg capsules also easy to open by twisting each half in opposite direction, dump out half of content, and push capsule back together. Been doing that your years and very effective. I hate 4mg dose and no more effective for me. 0.2 also recommended for Asian population.
Flomax is time release , ask about taking every other day is you are having issues or consider changing to alfuzosin or cialis. Don't risk a uti
Flomax only comes as a 0.4mg capsule. A compounding pharmacy may be able to make up a lower dosage for you.
