I do not like the way Lyrica makes me feel in the morning! My feet look a bit puffy as well. (I was in 5 inch heels yesterday for about 8 hours, so maybe that is why?)
This is the fifth day on Lyrica, and I just feel like I'm stoned!!!
Will this side effect wear off eventually??
Thank you in advance for any advice.

I find it real mellow, almost Nothing.I was on gabapentin for about 10 years then switched to 3 150mg Lyrica a day and feel just fine.
Would like to add, if you take it and don’t like the feeling, stay away from sugar. It seems to intensify that problem somehow. At least for me.
Unfortunately it does the same thing to me. I’ve tried it several times because it works like magic for nerve pain, as well as helping my depression and anxiety big time. But every time I have to stop taking it because I hate this feeling. I feel it’s no good if I get rid of pain, depression anxiety but spend my day drunk. I have too many responsibilities and sadly I just can’t function properly on it. I reached the decision to use it only when it gets to the point where I can’t tolerate my nerve pain. I forgot to add it effects my focus and memory too. Like I would lose track of what I was doing or walk into a room and can’t remember why I’m there.
I need to mention I take only one 50mg a day!!! Wish there was another medication out there without that horrible side effect!
Hi. I've been taking Neurontin 300mg for spinal nerve damage & pain, also for herniations L3,4,&5. It's helped dramatically. I do feel stoned, but it's not something I can't handle. It's done an amazing job with my chronic pain, I haven't felt this good & energetic in a long time. The other things I take are Flexeril, Naproxen, & Ativan, so at night when I take a dose of everything, I feel pretty ripped. So, I take it before bed & sleep deeply. Hope this helps.
This is day 7 for me, and yeah , I feel like I'm stoned. I'm supposed to go up to 150mg twice a day tomorrow. I had great results on just 75 mg once a day, so I decided I'm going to do 150mg once a day at bedtime. I can't keep feeling like this. I can't wait 3 to 5 weeks for the "side effects" to go away. I can't even drive!
Hi momliburn. I hope you do better with Lyrica than I did. The stoned feeling never went away for me even after taking it for years. I experienced so many horrible side effects such as concentration problems, memory loss, and weight gain. I used to love reading novels but I had to quit because I couldn’t concentrate on what I was reading and I couldn’t remember what I had read. I ended up having a lot of cavities from Lyrica. Some people have said it’s from the dry mouth side effect from this drug. When I decided I didn’t want to take it anymore I found out that I had to taper off slowly. If I tried tapering too fast I would have withdrawals. I would have anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts. Along with dizziness and diarrhea. And much more. Some people have had brain zaps but thankfully I didn’t. I ended up finding a Lyrica group on Facebook and they helped me get off it.
Most doctors don’t realize how dangerous it can be to get off these types of medications in just a few weeks time. Personally I’m still not sure which one was worse for me; taking Lyrica or tapering off Lyrica. Please do all the research you can on Lyrica and medications like it. I sure wish I would have researched it before my body and brain got dependant on it. Take care and I wish you the best. Cindy59
Hello Anonymous,
I have been on Lyrica 125mg a day for a long time & think that it is really helpful for Fibromyalgia & Neuropathy. My Rheumatologist told me that you can feel high on it... depending on dosage. I don't feel that way! After you have been on Lyrica for some time that feeling will subside. Standing in 5" heels is not the greatest.
Take care & feel better!
I just began taking this medication (10/12/18) last night and am only on my second pill of 3 per day and I feel like I'm really high. I absolutely hate that feeling. I cannot walk straight without feeling dizzy. My ability to focus is incredibly diminished. I can't study or read or watch anything, it's really frustrating not being able to go about my day as usual. I am hoping this side effect goes away over time, if it doesn't then I will have to stop taking it. I can't finish my degree if I cannot do my assignments or presentations.
I was on Lyrica for 8-9 years. I experienced the high feeling along with many other side effects. I went from a size 5 to a size 13 even though my eating habits didn’t change. Sometimes though I would have a craving for sweets and/or chocolate. After being on it for many months I started getting confused, forgetting words and how to spell them. I started losing interest in things and I had no energy to do anything. My hair started falling out in clumps and my teeth started to rot; one split in the middle and one broke off at the gum line. I started to retain water and I looked like I was 6 or 7 months pregnant. My sight started to get blurry and I had a stabbing pain in one of my eyes. I tapered off at 10% every 2 weeks (sometimes holding longer if my body couldn’t take it). The pain and flu like symptoms were a nightmare. I took my last Lyrica on June 5th, 2017. It was a rough road at times; but I am slowly getting back to myself. Be careful everyone and take care xo

I forgot to add profuse sweating, dizziness and clumsiness to my list of side effects. Also I had anger, depression and suicidal thoughts. I’m sure I will remember more; but I think you will realize now what I think about this drug!

I have been on Lyrica for 4 weeks... ALL of the "onset side effects" have gone away. I was dizzy and honestly did feel high at first. Thats gone. I did have a little swelling and my appetite increased... but all is back to normal. I love my Lyrica... since Tramadol is now
classified as a Narcotic (go figure why) I had a hard time finding anyone to prescribe it to me (I took one a day). So I had to go to Lyrica and I will say - its the best thing I have ever taken. My fibro pain is so much better... pretty much gone... I feel like working in my yard, cleaning house... living my life again. It took awhile for my body to adjust, but it has. I take it 2/day.
I hated Lyrica, made me spacey, dizzy, stoned, zombie, etcetera. But for me the worst was gaining 30 pounds in 3 months, during the summer, when I was eating healthier and getting some exercise. Doctor didn't believe me at first when I told her about the sudden weight gain, she blamed me! I finally convinced her and she admitted weight gain was a major side effect for some folks. Adding 30 pounds to an already achey body was horrible. I went off the Lyrica and slowly the weight came off.
Hi. I have been on Lyrica for almost a year. 300 mg a day.
It has wiped out my fibro. It has helped with temporary bouts of depression. It helps with a breathing problem I have. I have no idea why, I just know it helps.
I sleep much better.
This has been a miracle drug for me.
At my dose, I do not feel high.
I have kidney disease so 300 mg is my maximum dose.
