For those who have been on Wellbutrin/buproprion... please rate your experience in the following areas and what dosage level you are on ? (1) Energy (2) Motivation (feeling of getting things accomplished) (3) Weight management (weight loss or weight gain) (4) Libido (increase or decrease)?
(This question was originally posted in 2013, so I am starting a new thread to update the same question, since it has been commented on many times.)
Hello, I have taken a 150 mg dose of Wellbutrin XL for nearly 2 months now. I had small side effects (sleeping issues, head-spinning) but they passed fairly quickly. Sometimes it is a bit difficult to fall asleep but this is not a problem for me. (1,2) I felt this energy boost after the first pill I took. Then, my usual struggle with feeling 'muddy' all day long and being totally unable to think clearly disappeared. However, now this effect seems to lessen. I wonder if someone else also noticed that this effect was only temporary??? I am really worried. (4) Well, it is better than it was...

When I went to pick up my wellbutrin the pharmacist said to take it at night (HUGE mistake). I took it at 8pm hoping it would help me sleep, and its currently 3am and I'm still wound up, so there's definitely an energy boost. I cleaned my entire room and my mood is a LOT better I've been able to handle people being rude a lot easier and it rolls off my shoulders easier. I've eaten a little more than I usually do but since I haven't been on it long I haven't noticed any weight difference. Also my libido is higher than normal. Hope this helps!

For the past 14 months I have been on Lexapro 20mg. Completely lost my "libido" and gained weight (10lbs). I have been on various antidepressants for 35 years. This year I was doing "ok" but lost motivation and was becoming more reclusive. I asked my Dr to add Wellbutrin in April '17 since it had helped many years ago. It definately increased my motivation around the house and brought back my enjoyment of sex. I take Wellbutrin XL 150 mg every AM.

I tried Wellbutrin for only a few weeks, I had the "honeymoon phase" where I was actually happy & had energy, unfortunately for me that didn't last & my depression & anxiety got worse. I've tried quite a few antidepressants & had DNA testing to see which ones are best for me. I'm taking each day "drug free" as the side effects weren't worth it. But everyone reacts differently. Best of luck, I hope it helps you! I'm even too sensitive for birth control pills, trying another next week, I don't think my body does well with any meds.

Hi crazy girl: How did the DNA testing go for you? So, are you saying that you tried all the meds that the DNA testing show as promising for you, but with not good results? So you aren't taking any of them now? For me, I find this many years down the road, I can't tolerate a twice a day dosing of Wellbutrin like I could for so many years. It gives me too much anxiety when I get up to the 300mg daily. Now I take 150mg Wellbutrin SR (generic) once a day, and twice daily dosing of buspar to counteract the anxiety.

I've not tried them all, after the Wellbutrin put me in the hospital I decided I was done. I was mental & on a low dose, tried increasing & it got worse. I've tried 4 kinds & even my psychiatrist said the more you try the less chance you have of finding one that works. So for now I'm taking it day by day. I'm a full time college student & cannot deal with all of the bs side effects. I'd rather feel down than a zombie. Unfortunately antidepressants only truly work in 40% of people. I'm done "drinking the kook aid" of the drug manufacturers also.
