Does lomotil make you high?

I TOOK IT FOR YEARS FOR IRRITABLE BOWEL SYMDROME. IF I TOOK IT AS A PREVENTATIVE, IT DID GIVE ME A "LIFT"... A FEEL GOOD ALL OVER. IF I TOOK IT WHILE HAVING AN IBS EPISODE, IT STOPPED THE SPASMS OF INTESTINES. YES, IT WILL GIVE A BUZZ ON AN EMPTY STOMACH. IT DID WITH ME. IT DEFINATELY HAS AN Opioid EFFECT. I'M 68 YEARS OLD AND BEEN THROUGH A LOT OF PRESCRIPTION MEDS IN MY LIFE. ONE SHOULD USE LOMOTIL WITH CAUTION AS IT WILL CONSTIPATE IF TAKEN TOO MUCH OR IN EXCESS.

You can absolutely get high from Lomotil, even on small doses like 3-4 pills. There are plenty of studies, including addiction studies, backing this up.

Sorry but I came across this response years after but felt like it still needed to be addressed. Marjorie zych , your answer is completely false and not sure which PDR, pharmacist and doctor you were taking to in support of your answer but you have given this individual false info. First Lomotil’s main ingredient diphenoxalate is a opioid narcotic and it is structurally similar and similar in effect to meperidine, which is Demerol . Atropine is added to discourage abuse but it still happens and many people report getting high on dosages that exceed normal dosing.
Please don’t bs answers with something so important (a member was obviously looking for help) just to say something because it is clear that you didn’t know what you were talking about and likely didn’t consult and professional reference. Being a health care professional , I know this is fairly common knowledge in the medical and pharmaceutical arena.

Lomotil should not give you a high at all. It is used for diarrhea. If it makes you high you would be the first I'm sure. Hope this is the info you are looking for
