I looked on the Mayo Clinic about tramadol and weight loss weight gain are not a common issue and are listed as so. And on bottom it says if you notice anything out of the ordinary not listed to consult your Dr. So in my opinion if your gaining or losing a lot talk to your doctor.
Tramadol 100mg slow release x twice a day.
EVERY person reacts differently!
I have had problems with my weight my whole life and have been consistently stable unless I consume low nutrients high kj foods. Maybe I would lose some weight off the tramadol? I don't know.
Until I have proper diagnosis I need the pain relief. Endep put weight on me.
I took this for a week due to extreme pain cause by slipped disc in my neck. Lost 3 lbs after a week. Stopped taking it four days after my loss and the flowing week I Gaines 4.5lbs. Never gained so much in a week! So depressed.
I took Tramadol for 2 years due to a back injury and gained 40lbs. The gain was so suttle, I didn’t even realize it until I my doctor pointed it out. He took me off of tramadol and gave me a new topical rub. My weight literally returned to normal without any effort.
Ive been taking tramadol since july. Ive gained 20 lbs and the scale is still climbing. Doesnt matter if i eat or not every night i seem to gain.
I saw my doctor because I gained 12 pounds in 2 weeks. My appetite is poor because I have a precancerous pancreatic tumor and stage 4 kidney disease. I have been losing weight for months until this episode. I was taking Tramadol during this period. Didn't make any connection, nor did my docs. I quit taking the Tramadol because I recognized I was beginning to abuse it, and the weight loss resumed as expected with my conditions. Yesterday, my pain was severe and I took a dose at noon and one before bed. This morning, I am up 1.5 lbs. that's when I got on the Net to search and found this blog. I will rely on ibuprofen now. Thanks for all the input.
Personally, I have not lost or gained weight while on tramadol. It does mess with your taste buds. And a real good gourmet steak can taste not too good at times.
Absolutely Yes it can cause you to gain weight. It does not work the same for everyone but for me, it cause my appetite to grow some and caused me to put on about 5 pounds in 7 days. I was on a generic for flexeril called cyclobenzaprine. But check this out, before i ever touched cyclobenzaprine, I was on a anti- anxiety med that was causing me to loose weight, which I was concerned about. But once I touched the cyclobenzaprine (generic flexeril) I began packing on the pounds instantly! Problem solved. So my answer is Yes it definitely can cause weight gain.
I was on flexeril for a back injury for about 2 months & gained over 15 lbs. I didn't change my eating habits at all. Of course exercise was limited but I did a lot of walking. I was shocked when the weight gain was so rapid because I have never gained weight easily. With my last baby I only gained 11 lbs. and she weighed 8 lbs. 3 oz. & the Dr. was advising me to gain weight so I was trying hard with no luck. I don't like sweets, not a dessert eater, love veggies and drink water so diet is not the problem. I stopped taking the flexeril and have already dropped 8 lbs. in just over a week.
Thank you for your comment. Some weeks ago i increased my tramadol intake from 3 to 4 a day, 2 of them just before going to bed. It was just around Valentine's day and I blamed the chocolates. But even cutting on carbs, sweets... i gain 1 lb or 2 each night. It just I am such a coward in regard of pain, but i think I will go back to my 800 mg Ibuprofen pills and spit my stomach!!!
I am talking with my Dr about my weight gain 20 -25 lbs I have been on tramadol 2 years and I have most fat in my stomach area I cannot loose
It caused ridiculous increase in appetite migraines sweats memory loss . Anyone who is saying they lost massive weight on this medication was definitely taken over the dosage of 50 milligrams which would mean you were basically getting high on it which would cause weight loss

I have 50mg tablets of Tramadol and have been taking 1 1/2 tablets or 75mg a day. I can’t seem to make it through the day without it but I want to keep my dosage as low as possible. With this low dose, I’ve gained 10 pounds over a 6 month period. I haven’t changed my diet. My exercise has decreased but I’m starting to do more but can’t seem to lose that 10 lbs. I’ve never had a weight problem in the past.
I’m in the most pain in the morning. That’s when I take my Tramadol. It gets me through the day. I’ve had 2 knee surgeries, and I have bad spinal stenosis. I don’t want back surgery. My primary care doctor thinks that I may have Fibromyalgia since my pain seems to be in many different points on my body. Sometimes I wonder if Tramadol can make you have more pain if you don’t take it more than once.
I am registered for medical marijuana, but haven’t been to a dispensary yet to try it because I know I won’t be able to afford it.
My concern with Tramadol is that I feel like I have the flu when it wears off. Does anyone else experience this.?
My answer to this is a definite yes! I took it regularly about 6 yrs ago and gained weight, changed to something else and leveled out. I am having a serious surgery tomorrow and could not take the pain med I was on. Only option was tramadol. WELL, I have gained 8 pounds in 9 days!!! I am quite upset in the first place and actually eat very little... this is the straw that breaks the camel's back!!! I have had absolutely no other changes to my diet other than tramadol!!!
Neither one causes weight gain,ok.
Lost weight on both of those.
from personal experience no not at all
I have been on both before. I do agree Tramadol does make you lose weight drastically and you lose alot of your taste from it therefor you don't want to eat, losing weight. Though the Flexeril does not have this effect it is very helpful with the muscle pain and spasms. Good luck on the Tramadol it is addicting despite what the doctors say. Actually anything can be very addictive if not taken appropriately, but the Tramadol is addicting fast especially if you need alot of it. Good luck bido.
Hi, know this is a little late, but i also lost 28lb while taking tramadol so would be quite surprised if they caused weight GAIN
how long it took u to lose that much weight
Sorry so late answering... it took about 7 months i think? But i took it over the prescribed dose, which i wouldn't recommend!!! It did take me only 3/4 months to put it all back on when i stopped! And i had to stop as it messed my head up pretty well!
I am gaining weight with flexeril... 15 lbs. now in a very short time. I was prescribed it for muscle spasms after injuring my back. I think I would rather have back muscle spasms than this belly fat that I now have.
I cant speak to flexeril, but I know from experience that tramadol can cause drastic weight loss. I went from 180 to 135 in just over a year. Stay away from this poison! Tramadol killed my appetite.
Thank you for your answer. I don't need to lose or gain. Appreciate the input.
Just a little more input. I was not taking any other medication. The only change I made to my lifestyle was Tramadol. No excercise, no change in diet, I just was never hungry while taking Tramadol. I went to my Dr., full physical... nothing going on organically, it had to be the pill. I am tapering off and almost completely done with it and I am gaining the weight right back, thank god.
Glad you are better. Why were you taking Tramadol, if I may be so bold to ask? You found it to be addictive? That is quite disconcerting since the drug companies boast that it is not...
I started taking it for relief from a car accident. I had kidney stones at about the same time and things got out of control. I started ordering it online and quickly became addicted. Tapering is working for me and I hope to be completely off of it in about a month or less. Everyone is telling me that I am tapering too fast, so I may drag it out a bit, but I will never buy another pill.
hi
i have always known Tramadol to course weight loss and they do kill your appetite alone with many other things.
have you been back to see your GP about this matter and told them about your weight loss? has i know that they should be checking up on you now and then because of the tramadol if not make yourself an appointment to get yourself checked out.
best wishes
