Hi Delila:
I've been taking revia/naltrexone for about 4 months now. For me, it's akin to a miracle drug. But, I've run out before as well, and notice within 48hrs I'm craving like mad. Even smelling alcohol on someone's breath makes me want to go and drink a bottle when I miss doses for too long. I agree with the other person who replied to you - I think a tapering off is the safest bet if you can do that... wish you the very best in your recovery Delila!! -steve
Thanks very much for your advice, and congratulations on your sobriety : )
Hi Delila This is a very hard one you can't do it cold turkey today is friday call the prescriber and get a refill with a tappering dose you have been on this a few years and you don't need to fall back on it or alcohol..I congraduate you on what you have done But please please don't just stop this medication without medical advice it is very importaint to go very slow. Call your doctor i wish i could remember i found a site just for this people coming off of this i think i google the drug and it had a site with very supportive members that really knew about coming off that plus your doctor would be great for this... Again please to much risk trying to do this on your own.dear all the luck in the world you can do it but get help just like you were smart enough with the alcohol..don't rush it is a long tapering dose..God bless Chuck medically retired pharmacy technician.Cpth.
Hello D - I cannot offer any advice I'm afraid just wanted to say hello and wish you all the best
Thank you Chuck, that's very helpful, much appreciated : )
Thanks Emeraldgirl, hello to you too : )
No problem just want you to know there are people that care it can be done but just stoping it can throw you in a tailspin please get help from the doctor and if possible support group be proud of what you have done and how far but cold turkey is not for this medication trust be..nothing wrong with getting help starting with the doctor to give you a taper dose and if it takes 3 to 6 months so what best you do it right then rebound you have done great with what you have done and it is not the worst thing in the world if you stable yourself on a lower dose of the drug that helps many people have done this don't worry but very importaint you do it right your friend Chuck1957 please reach out to the doctor and do it right cew.
PS i see you also know Emeralgirl she is a wonderful and caring lady its always good to bouce ideas off of people that is what our forum is for but check with the doctor ..and a big hello to Emeralgirl also... nice to see your out there my sweet friend.
Ditto Chuck you and D are full of information and like you say its what DC is all about - Take care
Thank you guys! Thanks for all of your support : )
Hello, I am also on naltrexone for the last 11 months for alcohol. I just found out I need surgery on Thursday for a shoulder injury. Its a minimally invasive surgery however I'm worried about the effect it will have on being put under and pain management afterward. Tom make matters worse I also have a condition called psuedocolinesterase deficiency which already makes putting me under tricky. Is there anyway I can have this surgery safely and what can I do? No one has gotten should of me about stopping out and im worried they are w waiting to long. I won't hear from a Dr until weds(the day before surgery) since its the holidays and they will be closed. Please help!!! Thank you, Jordan
