I got new ones from the pharma this time and want to know if the new ones I got are supposed to be better at all ? 1) Cuz the price difference and 2) I was taken off my hydrocodone after 5 years and put on these and they just don't do anything for me I find it a little ridiculous that I am prescribed 4-6 at a time which is easily over 1000 mg a day when I can take less codone and have better results. Any input would be helpful and if there might be something else I can do for the pain so I'm not eating so many pills I have a rather large tolerance to medications and I am tired of eating pills that don't really work I would rather eat Ibuprofen but I really was not helping my liver with the amt of those I had to take
The AN 627 pills are tramadol 50mg made by Amneal Pharmaceuticals, and the oblong 377 are tramadol 50mg made by Caraco Pharmaceutical Labs. They are both essentially the same drug but made by different manufacturers. The most you should be taking is two tabs 4 times a day-this is the MAX dose of 400mg in a 24 hour period. Taking any more than that puts you at risk for seizures. Tramadol, especially in high doses, can lower the seizure threshold. Just because it is not considered a controlled substance doesnt mean it is safer than opioids like hydrocodone. Tramadol isnt an opioid. It is considered "opioid like". It is not made from any poppy alkaloids, natural or synthetic, but it DOES act on the opioid receptors, therefore, really carries all the dangers that opioids do. It is also unique in that it has antidepressant properties. For some people it can be every bit as hard to come off of as a true opioid. You get not only opioid type withdrawals, you get antidepressant type withdrawals as well. If I were in your shoes, I would let my Dr know that the medication is not working and see what your other options are. Do NOT take more than 400mg in a 24 hour period because you can have seizure activity-very dangerous. This can also lead to abuse and withdrawals so be very careful and respect this drug! This is probably just not the right drug for you. It does take time and patience to find the right drug or combination of drugs to treat your pain. If you are not seeing a pain management Dr, I would recommend that you ask your PCP to refer you to one. PM docs have a greater arsenal than PCP's do.

The max dose of tramadol is 400 mg a day. If I'm reading you correctly you are on way too much. What you have now is correct. I didn't find the round pill on the identifier. The big draw is that tramadol isn't classed as a controlled medication. It is however addicting if you're taking more then you should. Talk to your doctor maybe he'll change you to what works.

Oh and if you're trying to get a different med, stay away from one with tylenol in it, because over time, even if you haven't taken over the recommended amount a day, it will damage your liver. But please, don't take more then 400 a day of tramadol. I did my own little survey of the ones who had a hard time getting off the tramadol, and almost all of them were taking over 400 a day. The other thing with tramadol is that you can't wait til you have pain to take it, you have to take it every 6 hrs, to prevent the bad pain. And with fibro, nothing takes the pain away completely. I've that miserable condition for 60 yrs and I've never had a pain free day.

Tramadol is classified as a controlled substance in my state. It is a schedule IV here. Don’t know why they ever did that because if prescribed that crap for pain, you may as well take OTC acetaminophen

I know your post is very old, but I am 73 and have had fibromyalgia since about age 14. It caused me to finally retire as disabled at age 61. I too have never a pain free day for probably 50 years. No matter what meds I have tried- nothing really works. Side effects of drugs are horrible and not worth taking. And the worst part is I can't sleep- wake up every hour or 2 in pain.
