Vertin (Meclizine) is an antihistamine and anticholinergic. It works by blocking a chemical messenger in the brain, which helps to reduce or prevent vomiting. Meclizine is used to treat or prevent nausea, vomiting, and dizziness caused by motion sickness. It is also used for vertigo (or dizziness) caused by certain inner ear problems eg.Ménières disease.
Zevert (betahistine) is a histamine analogue and is specifically used to treat
Ménières disease. (This occurs when there is a build up of fluid within the inner ear. This causes symptoms such as tinnitus -buzzing in the ear, deafness and vertigo - a spinning sensation often causing vomiting).
Betahistine works by reducing the amount of fluid in the inner ear and this relieves the symptoms of Ménières disease.
