Ok, I've been in pain management for several years.. I take Oxycodone 15mg every 4-6hrs as well as a couple others that aren't relevant to my question.
Today I get my scripts filled & the Oxycodone looks different (not a round green/orange circle as I'm used to), it's like a white football looking pill and it reads Oxycodone-IR 15mg... Is there a difference here?
The original Oxycodone wasn't ER (extended release) to begin with, so I'm a little confused...
I do take an ER pain medication, but I'm just confused about the Oxycodone 15mg versus the Oxycodone-IR 15mg...

The IR are instant release that the only differ.

I know getting different pills one month to the next can be different manufactures, I go thru that as well. Different colors and shapes and letters & numbers. It can drive you nuts. So now you understand the IR & ER and if it doesn't anything. It's been a long road for me even trying to find a pharmacy that has my meds is absolutely crazy!

If you have oxycodone ER EXTENDED RELEASE: THEN THAT IS OXYCONTIN 15MG. Why it was not labeled as such I have no idea. The only Oxycodone ER is oxycontin. I myself am on oxycodone IR - IMMEDIATE RELEASE. The fact that your medication looks different could be because it's from a different Pharmaceutical Company. The only oxycodone that comes in extended release tablets is Oxycontin. But you can check with your doctor or pharmacist just to be safe & give you peace of mind.

I know it isn't ER, I take Oxymorphone 15mg ER--or Generic Opana, so the Oxycodone is for break thru pain I guess is what it's called. My nurse mentioned it was just b/c of different pharmacy, I just found it odd that with them being the same, 1 was labeled IR & the other wasn't tho they are the same drug.

Sounds like they switched manufacturers. There is absolutely no difference.

Thanks I felt they were the same, it just reads different on the bottle:
1 says Oxycodone 15mg
1 says Oxycodone-IR 15mg
SO, that just confused me. And they are for sure different manufacturers, but I just wasn't sure why 1 would read differently when they are the same medication!

glad you know I go right to the sourse the nurse or the pharmicist they know more on regular drugs then doctors we used to have the doctors call all the time i have this kid with such and such allergic to penicillin what can i use safely..but its better you answer then a kid on life support or just a terrible reaction..I am really supprised could be a new or a technician that gave them because we always marked them so we would talk to the patient and by pass all of this confusion the one i was still skeptic on was 15 i could not tell if it was tr of some kind so had to push it off better to always go to the safe side... chuck1957 and thanks Kasm.

to get a good answer there are several things missing if it was me to get a answer now i would just call the pharmacy and have them tell you what you have the ir is imed/release but with out letters or numbers there is no way to tell what the other one is give the pharmacy a call and find out if they changed brands on the oxycodone and what do i have..Sorry can't be more help just not enough to go off of..please call your pharmacy right away... chuck1957
