It might upset his stomach, that's why its coated. If its the only way you can get it in him, what else can you do? I find pills in hot dogs work pretty well.

hot dogs... perfect--> i went w/ Slim Jim sticks... another tasty "sort of meat" meat & dogs love 'em, too, thanks :-)
