My doctor recently prescribed Carafate again. The remaining bottle I have from 2013 states that it should be used by 03/13/04. It is now June 2. This is a very expensive medication and, if this date is arbitrary, I would prefer to finish this bottle before reordering.
How critical is the expiration date of Carafate?

Answers
Anything that is 10 years old should have been discarded a long time ago! They are too old! Throw them away and get a new prescription. 2004 to 2014 is too long to keep a medication
