My daughter has been on Suboxone and has had a change in mentation. She is a very intelligent, a law student, but has begun to exhibit delusional behaviour and seems to have lost touch with reality
Can Suboxone make someone psychotic?

Rapid opioid withdrawal CAN cause acute psychosis in suboxone users IF the suboxone dose is taken before the user is in mild to moderate withdrawal symptoms. This has actually happened to me. I was on a high dose of oxycodone and I took a 8-2mg suboxone after about 11 hours. I wound up in the hospital ER where they thought I was on PCP or something. The pain was excruciating and I had uncontrollable muscle movements. If you are familiar with rapid detox (where patients are put under anesthesia while a opioid blocking agent is injected), this was basically what happened to me without the anesthesia. MAKE SURE your pupils are dilated before taking your first suboxone dose and be sure that you score appropriately on the COWS test.
Very possible. I have had numorous "Psychotic episodes" while getting off of opoids. I am certain that subox is the same although I havent had any problem cumming off of it. Only was on it briefly.
Mine was temporary while my mind adjusted to the withdrawal. She may be on something else to try and offset the lack of subox. THat is where the problem may peak.
My son is having some problems and I thought it was some other drug but maybe this is his problem also. I am taking him to the suboxone Dr. because I think he is giving him other meds and then trying to say he might be bi-polar. Keep me posted so we can compare notes if necessary. Thank you
wow i hear that a lot about suboxone try lowering the dose or just take the active ingredient bup, its i think they maybe talking to much I know a lot of people do better on a low dose like 2mg not 16 or 24 it has a ceiling effect so whether it is .05 or 10.5 if it works it works do they get anxiety right after take? this part is important! subutex might be better if you have a understanding doc n if u tel them you'll watch over them see suboxone is a class 3 many doc will rx it but subutex is class 2 doc really dont like writing a class 2 norc. for addicts? go figure but, a lot of what i heard was that people who also had systems like this (including movement , projecting thoughts .racing thoughts ) we're also really smart people
I agree with sweetlemon. Get her to her doctor, asap. I hope it all works out for her.
My prayers and best wishes,
Chris
Deena, next time mark your question "conversational" instead of "seeking a direct answer", that way we can find out how your daughter is doing. You can keep us posted on her condition. Just an idea, as you may need more support from your friends here!
So hope your daughter is feeling better. sweetlemon
Dear deena, This sounds very frightening! Call her doctor asap!!!
Also, ask her if she is taking any other drugs with the suboxone.
Hope she is feeling better, good luck to you both.
