When I was prescribed Fentanyl patches, they wouldn't stay on me at all for more than 12-24 hours no matter where I put them. Soooooo, I found 3M brand Tegaderm at the pharmacy and cut it to be about 1/2" larger than the patch all around and that stuff TOTALLY stayed on through ANYTHING! You can put the patches on your arm, chest, stomach, thigh. But put them somewhere where there's no hair, or shave the area before you put it on. Definitely try the Tegaderm. If you can't find it in your pharmacy, your doctor may be able to give you some. And remember to rotate your patch location when you change it.
I used Butrans for about six months and found that you can put them on either side of your chest as well as your arms. About the sweating, in the booklet it does say that the only bandage that you can cover the Butrans patch with when you take a shower or swim is nexcare Tagamet bandages which are big enough to cover the entire patch and will stay on the entire week. The only problem is they are a little bit expensive. I couldn't find them in stores but I did find them on Amazon. Good luck!
I bought Tegaderm as a 10 cm x 1.5 m roll (4 inches by about 5 feet) that could be cut to length from my local pharmacy; it was very economical.
