I been prescribed zanex for years and they are totally different zanex is a benzo and is stronger it is not close to a buse bar it helps but does not compare.
I had taken Buspar many years ago. I had the one that divides and does look a lot like Xanax (bars or sticks) as they call them on the streets(2mg). I was prescribed Buspar even though I really wanted a Benzodiazapine ie: Valium, clonazepam or xanax for my Panic Disorder. I regreted taking the Buspar for it was way too expensive back in 1999. I had to stop for I had no Health coverage for Prescription of Health care. I went through sheer hell. I felt like my head was on fire, and laying down made it worst. I couldn't sleep, and if I was lucky enough to sleep, "my head on fire "" feeling was worst and 5 minutes of sleep would have strange nightmares which is common for most Withdrawls, especailly Anti-Depressant.
I really do not understand why many Phichiatrist would deny me of what I know works best for my Panic disorder and instead gives me a prescription for severe depression or anti-phicotic which most time are extremely expensive while Benzondiasapine are not. I know its mainly for kick backs for the Pharmaceutical companies. Though Benzodiazapines have just as bad side affect when withdrawing from it at least I know It will take affect right away unlike many Anti-depressant and IF that ceratin one works. What I like to know is what are u suffering from and how severe.? If u only have Enxiety or Panic Disorder then you should request for a Benzodiazapine or Xanax which is basically almost the same but some are short acting and others are long. Xanax is in a class of anti-phycotic and because of its known for people to abuse it . Anyway, I will never ever go on an anti-depressant because if one dont work, then you have to try another and sometimes u may have to try 3 or more to see if any of them works. Also most Anti -Depressant drugs like Buspar , the withdrawal is not comfortable. Of course with any of those drugs one should wean of of it slowly. I will never forget how I felt when I just stopped. I was actually taking plates and smashing them ( unbreakable ) on the table and crying hysterically because that is how bad it was. Never, never take something without reading the side affects first. Doctors will not volunterely tell you anything negtive. Ask your Pharmacist first before even purchasing the meds. I had learned that the hard way with other meds as well, Meds that I never thought I would get a bad withrawl from. Know your medication. Maybe your doctor can prescribe you Klonopin which works great for anxiety and or Panic disorder. And if you cannot sleep with this medication because most Anti-deprresant in the first 2 or so, you will go through some bumps and sleepless nights. Good Luck and I hope I helped you in some ways.
Buspar is a non-narcotic anti-anxiety medication.
Clonazepam is a long acting anti-anxiety that is a benzodiazapine. It is a very long acting med and is used extensively in psychiatry for anxiety and panic attacks. Xanax is another benzodiazapine that is very short acting, and does treat anxiety. I, personally, don't think the Buspirone works as well as the benzos. But everyone is different and react to meds in their own unique manner. Talk to your Psychiatrist about what's best for you. In all matters of the mind, some meds work, some don't. It's a coin toss.
Good luck to you...

I have taken buspirone now for about 1 1/2 years now, and there's NO WAY that this anywhere as good or beneficial as Xanax OR clonazepam!! Not a chance; unless it's just me. I don't feel relaxed or non-anxious with buspirone alone, but I felt fine with either of the benzos. Let me know how anyone out there feels about this medication, ok? I still cannot believe that I was taken OFF Xanax, then 2 years ago, Clonazepam!! Why?? I've been a mess ever since; such as losing my job; losing my apartment;etc. Now I just feel VERY nervous and anxious ALL OF THE TIME! Does anyone feel the same way??
No. They are very different and the prescribing physician should know this as well as whether they should be taken together or not. Hope this helps.
Yes they are... Buspirone and Xanax are in the same class and have the same effect. Buspirone are considered to be the generic of Xanax to by most for physicians.. Because most insurances won't cover the same the name brand Xanax, but will cover Buspirone.. They do the same thing and have the same effect
Xanax and Buspar may be in the same drug class called Benzodiazepones but Xanax is controlled and Buspar is not. Also, I have found that Buspar is not as strong. It is very helpful in treating symptoms associated with anxiety.
No, they are not in the same category. Buspar is categoryB, while xanax is a category D. Both are used to treat anxiety yet different types of anxiety. Leaving incorrect answers can confuse people, please consult a pharmacist.
Hey folks, you are all stomping on my response, it's confusing for the person who asked the question to hear all this bickering, Bicker on, just please click on "answer this question" rather than "comment" because you're making it difficult for the person to take any advice and skewing my original response. Thanks!
Buspar is not a benzo such as xanax, klonopin, valium or ativan... all of which are controlled substances and fall under the Controlled Substance Act whereas buspar or any form of buspar doesn't fall under the CSA. just google buspar versus xanax... you'll find its not a benzo although it does help with anxiety and even sexual dysfunction... is slow acting so needs to be built up over time whereas if you're having a true panic attack and take a real benzo you get relief within 30 minutes ...
FYI. If you are not the person who posted the question; Please respond by clicking on "Answer this questions" as opposed to commenting on a comment. It becomes very confusing to the original poster when one person's response if followed by others comments. Individual answers are easier for the person seeking help to absorb, otherwise it's the same ad interrupting a conversation, often alienating the original poster and reducing the site to a chat room rather than a quality source for advice.
Thanks.
Buspirone is not the same as Xanax at all and it is not a benzo
Comment police, they're responding to Xiomara's outlandish claim. People are going to comment where they're going to comment. Like this comment.
Comment.
Buspar is not generic Xanax. Alprazolam is generic Xanax. Busiprone is generic buspar. I don't think any one on here knows what they are talking about.
Poor little girl:
This started off as a very old post. But it started up again recently with new comments and answers. Please read the current comment. I made several comments further down this post that are as recent as this past week. Most of the sites don't have knuckle head answers from knuckle head people like a few that commented here. Please disregard their ignorance, and know that many, most people who post here are knowledgeable and are here to help.
Thanks. "G"
